Does this work with gaps in drywall and for taping?

Which primer is recommended to use on top of this before painting?

I used this to skim coat a small area. I wanted the previously painted and textured soffit walls above the kitchen cabinets smooth so they can be painted the same color as the cabinets. Easy product to use. Walls are nice and smooth now. Which primer is recommended to use over this product? I have some Zinsser 123 already on hand.
Asked by: DontWantToScrewUpMyWork
Personally, I recommend Killz brand. It has a good coverage area, and lower cost than other brands. Any primer should be good though. Sorry my answer isn't great.

Just do a Google search. This will work for any material you can think of. I have looked up hundreds of products this way over the years.

Up front, I’m not a professional, and I hate to work with drywall... but, I have had enough experience working with it to know when a basic product is good or bad, and this is BAD! Or, at least the bucket I got is. It has the consistency of warmish soft-serve ice cream. So, you can imagine how well it adheres to a ceiling. Yes, I stirred it up, and it was still too thin to use. I couldn’t help but laugh as I re-read the side of the bucket where it mentions it being less mess and easier cleanup. And as for dust control...if that was low dust, I’d hate to see what high dust would be. I got this because I wasn’t ready for a box, or a 4.5 gallon bucket of the general purpose mud (green lid), and this is the only gallon bucket the local HD carries. So, if you’re a professional and use this daily, you’ll likely disagree with me, and that’s ok - like I said, I’m a reluctant drywall DIYer. However, I recommend the the general purpose mud, as it seems easier to control and creates less mess and waste.

Final surface so soft that a fingernail can result in a deep gouge. Higher price, more hassles, and poorer quality surface is not a winning combination. Switched back to all-purpose compound.

There was just as much dust as any other non dust compound I've used. It was more expensive so I thought maybe it would really be less dust. It wasn't less at all. I'll never buy this product again or any other USG products.

It really is an improvement over standard joint compound regarding dust control. Obviously, there will be dust created during the sanding process but it appears that the dust adheres to itself and falls to the ground in a more localized manner (it wasn't all over the room). Also, for the final coat, I thin slightly with water and it delivered a very smooth finish. I will use this product in the future. It costs more but it is worth it.

This is THE WORST. It completely clogs up a sanding sponge in under 30 seconds. It's so soft, it never really seems like it's dry no matter how long it's been. The first tie I used it, it almost ruined to work I was doing. Can't say enough BAD things about this product. The green top mud on the other hand is the standby that has never let me down. This product should be removed from the shelves.

Have used it before. easy to work with as long as you know your working conditions, drying time required and if need to thin. Works best as a filler if straight out of bucket which I would not recommend except for any other application.

With no addition or mixing this compound works out all the bubbles with just a few swipes of the knife. And there really does seem to be less dust in the air when sanding, which means less clean up afterwards.

It also dried and sanded more easily so my walls are very smooth and I can't even tell the hole was there.
