Does hardware come with the product or is it sold separately? It did not say in the product discription

Asked by: Sherry
Yes, basic hardware came with the square sail when I bought it last year. It is still up and holding up to date.

Is the material dense enough to stop bird droppings?

I'm considering putting a shade sail over my driveway to keep my car free from bird droppings. Is the material woven close enough to stop it or would it pass right though?
Asked by: toomanygrackles
Probably stop it temporarily, but would wash through with the next rain.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality sail... Worthless hardware This shade sail itself is a good product. It's design is sturdy, and the clews are reinforced well. Stainless steel rings are used on each clew, and are also very sturdy. The hardware on the other hand is total junk, and a waste of time. The cheap turnbuckles are galvanized, and just aren't sturdy at all. The threads on two of the provided turnbuckles were stripped right out of the box. Home Depot has some great stainless steel alternatives in their hardware aisle, but be prepared to spend an additional $20 or so on hardware if you want to do this project once. Don't waste your money on the optional stainless turnbuckles made by the sail manufacturer either, they're 300% more expensive than the comparable Home Depot alternative. Also, when taking your measurements for mounting the sail, make sure you account for plenty of stretching room. The sail I purchased stretched a good 3" on each side after the first week of use. It will also sag quite a bit during heavy rains (it retains water in the fibers), but water does not pond in the breathable material. The sail does dry out quickly after rainfall though. Bottom line? I would rate the sail at 4 stars, and recommend it due to it's sturdy design. The manufacturer should include hardware to match the quality of the sail though. It's like the hardware was an afterthought, with no quality reassurance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What We Needed This product has worked out perfectly for our new patio. It provides excellent shade, allows air flow, and looks great. It appears to be very sturdy and well-made, although we substituted steel cables for the ropes included. It has survived two "monsoon" storms without any difficulties. (Our original free-standing canopy wound up in the neighbor's yard after a storm, despite being tied down to cinder blocks.) We are using the sun shade until we can build an arbor, but once that happens, we will likely move the sun shade to another location in our yard. It's very nice and we can use all the shade we can get here in Mesa, Arizona.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Product Serves It's Purpose The product serves it's purpose. The most difficult part of this project was figuring out a reliable system to mount it to. After a lot of research I was unable to locate a recommended pole or post to support it. I ended up special ordering a couple of 4x4x16s to give enough height over my deck to mount the unit. I have one side mounted to the house and the other side to the posts. In extreme weather situations, I can see it being difficult to quickly dismantle the unit. As the sail get's wet it severely sags and stretches out. I have doubts the unit can withstand winds in excess of 60 miles per hour, so you'll need to figure out a system to get it down quickly when the weather turns sour. Keep in mind there will be a great deal of weight on this product, so make sure you mount it to studs or posts. Great product for quick shade, but I can see a lot of maintenance needed down the road to keep this sail flying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as nice as the Coolaroo brand shade sail I have this shade sail next to a Coolaroo shade sail I bought several years ago. The are basically identical in construction, both keep out the sun the same, the Coolaroo shade has a seam down the center but this one doesn't and yet this sail was a LOT CHEAPER. I would never pay the price again for the Coolaroo again. I would recommend this product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value, great shade! We bought the 12' x 12' blue sail and are very happy with the color-- it's a light, sky blue. The hardware that came with the sail could be of better quality but it's fine for now (may need to be replaced after a season or two). My husband hung it by himself. We downgraded it a star on quality due to the fact that there is a defect in the sail that looks like it had a 10" rip and was sewn up to fix it. Hubby didn't notice until after it was hung, so lay yours out and inspect it before you hang it. But it does provide great, much needed shade and it's a terrific value for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product overall and great value! This is an excellent product: quality material, strong construction, all the hardware needed, easy to install, very effective in blocking sun but cooling at the same time. The only drawback for me was that it was not a true square of 12 feet. It curves in and measures only 10 feet at the center of each side. That leaves sunny areas on my deck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome Money Saving Shade Purchase I have a typical small backyard that we landscaped with stamped concrete and a perimeter of plants, large potted plants and a 12' by 12' covered patio that cost about $12,000. I still had a large area that needed shade, but was not able to build another covered patio due to cost and city restrictions. I decided to install three 6" steel posts 12' in length, three feet depth as a way to attach the home depot 16' by 16' heavy duty shade cloth. The extra strong eyelets at each corner of the shade cloth made it easy to use short rubber bungee cords that keep the tension of the shade cloth and absorb the stress of high wind bursts. I can easily detach the cloth in winter with carabineer style attachments. This proved to be a very affordable and attractive alternative to a fixed structure,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product Very nice sun shade, some of the hardware needed to be upgraded as they tightened they broke( easy enough fix by going to home depot and getting bigger size) I also had a longer distance to secure to side fence, so I used 1/8 size steel wire and tightens with a ratcheting fasteners then secured the wire( less noticeable ) all in all this was a great upgrade for the patio

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sun Shade Sail Modification I have an oversize Pergola that's great to look at but not very functional without a cover to block the sun. The Sand Square Sun Shade Square was the perfect solution albeit the available size was two feet short of what I needed for full coverage. Solution: The price was very reasonable so I purchased two Sand Square Sun Shade kits. Modification of the second kit was easy using a razor knife for a perfect fit. I now have full shade coverage of my Pergola. I was able to modify the second Sand Square Sun Shade Square for complete sun blockage. I'm enjoying every minute spent sitting beneath my now fully functional Pergola..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second year for three sails This is the second spring we've put three shade sails--one square and two triangle ones. We didn't take them down until last October so they had a long summer last year and they look like new, absolutely. I'm still using the original hardware that came with the shade sails. No problems ever keeping the sails tight--it all depends on choosing the right place to mount the corners. I LOVE these sails. Also, my living room is much cooler : )

It keeps our patio shaded enough to make sitting in full sun bearable. The rain passes through so no worryies about it filling with water and sagging. If the instructions were more detailed I would have given it 5 stars. They don’t give you a minimum distance from pole to pole. It is as labeled 12’ X 12’ when measuring from corner to corner. I would recommend not putting your poles (or whatever you chose to mount it to) less than 13’ apart to account for the minimum amount of rope and hardware. Also, keep in mind the arched shape of the sides. When mounted it measures just just over 9’ across at it’s most narrow point. It will NOT shade an area 12’ x 12’. More like an area of 9’ x 9’ give or take depending on mounting height and angle of the sun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product looks great! My husband and I bought this to shade my young children more in the summer while they swim in our pool. This sail ended up making my yard look great too! I am very happy with the product. I recommend looking at the different colors closely because the color I chose wasn't what the picture showed...looks more yellow than light brown.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product The mesh not as open as I'd expected. It's tightly woven so it shades really well. Very durable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shade/cheap hardware Shade works great but the hardware supplied within the box isn't worth anything.... the treads stripped out within a few days, especially after a few gusts of wind. As long as the anchor points are solid AND you go and purchase better hardware to hang the shade it should be all good even during big storms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought the sunshade to block the intense sun and it has worked wonderfully! The sunshade has worked very well for the purposes I bought it which was to block the sun from my back porch. We have had several storms with strong winds and it has held up well. I will probably buy another one soon for another area.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good base bad accessories The actual sail is well put together and provides fantastic shade, however, the rope and bits used to attach it are sub par at best. We bought new for everything used to put it up and couldn't be happier. Truly they should not include these other parts, just lower the price and we'll buy our own......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very practical and Trendy looking Our deck wraps around our house and we purchased two of these, for two different areas. I absolutely love them. The fabric is kind of a woven plastic - but it looks like a canvas when it is in place. They are 16 ft square with large metal "circles" at each corner. There are ropes and hardware for attaching them to poles, trees or the house. They look very trendy and made my unusable deck a very fun spot to eat out. Once they are up what about rain? Well it rained the very night I put them up. They sag down a bit while they are wet, but since the material is woven the rain comes thru like a strainer. When they dry they do firm up and go back into place. We love ours and have recommended them to others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Material seems good, execution poor. It's like they had random pieces of material they seamed together. It was that way on both the 16' square and 16' triangle sails. Also, one turnbuckle broke in half with the first breeze. On the plus side, the turnbuckle broke; the sail did not rip. Good D-rings and they do provide good shade.Time will tell about durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Price Good Deal This was priced nice compared to similar at other sites. It has heavy duty stitching and gromments. We have had several strong storms come through and the shade cloth stood the test. Good deal I think.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product/nice color Excellent canopy, but the hardware lets it down. Either upgrade the hardware or leave it out and save the buyer a few bucks to spend on some better hardware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product A great alternative to more expensive awnings. Just realize the fabric will stretch a little over time and place attachments far enough away to be able to take up slack as time goes on. Most stretch in the first two weeks. We live very close to the beach and get quite bit at times and the shade holds up great. Plenty of give for the high wind thunderstorms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice shade! To put this in perspective, I live outside of Reno, NV. Summers are very hot and dry. I was looking for a way to make my back concrete patio livable and party-able in the summer. Its just too intensely hot. This seemed to hit the mark. I used Eye bolts to tie down to, and opted for a light chain instead of rope to get it to where it had to go. Its nice the kit included the adjusters to tighten that up because the fabric will stretch tight and looks best that way. I added some parachute cord to the side that usually gets hit with wind, and they have attach devices for this exact thing. It gets crazy windy here. The shade works better than expected, has survived high winds, and seems to block most of the sun as they advertise. We will be getting some smaller triangular sections now too, to shade a kids play area. Very good product! I should have got this years agi!
