I’d like to try to use these to prevent a fridge from lurching forward upon opening the door. Kitchen floor is wood.

What prevents these shims from slipping?
Asked by: LauraEllen777
My application was different from this one, but my guess is that this wedge would not grip well on a hard wooden floor and would tend to slide.. Actually, I'm surprised that the magnetic catch on a fridge door would require such a force to open the door that the fridge would slide on the floor. The feet on a fridge should come with friction pads built-in to allow the fridge to grip the floor, without needing wedges. Also, I believe that the fridge installation instructions will advise you to keep the fridge level when in use.

My new refrigerator has a door that swings all the way open (180 degrees) even when I only open it a crack...When the front feet are lowered the door is Ok but the fridge can't be moved because the wheels don't reach the floor...The technician who attempted to fix the problem says the wheels can't be lowered, only the feet...I'm trying to imagine if putting these shims under the wheels and creating a 1/4" rise would adjust the pitch of the fridge enough so the door would not swing all the way open...Also, if I were to pull the fridge forward so the wheels are on the shims, if I could successfully move the fridge when needed (to clean behind or use the electrical outlet) back and forth on and off the shims...Could I stack shims to create a 1/2" rise and readily move the fridge on and off shims stacked two high? This might allow me to solve the door problem and still move the fridge when needed by myself...
Asked by: FridgeFrustrated
For the cost this is well worth trying. I suggest leaving a few inches behind the fridge. Then use the shims, pulling the fridge forward onto the shims. When you need to clean, move the fridge backwards a few inches off the shims. Then remove the shims so that you can move the fridge forward to clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these, an affordable solution for wobbly steps. My hatch steps to the basement aren't secured to the stone work (it's an old house) and they were a bit wobbly. They wouldn't come loose, but the wobble was disconcerting when you stepped on them. I used these at the edge of the offending boards against the stone and was successful in eliminating the "give".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toilet shims I think this is the first time I have written a review on an item. I ordered these because of the other reviews. I placed the shims around the toilet. I used a pencil to mark where they needed to be cut as close to the toilet I could get. I didn't want to use a permament marker to leave a mark on my tile floor or toilet. I noticed people having trouble cutting them. I removed one at a time took a sharp razor knife. I placed it on a 2x8 piece of wood and scored the shim below the line until I could fold the piece I wanted over and cut it off. I put the piece back under the toilet and used the rest of it and a hammer to lightly tap the piece I wanted under the toilet. That way it won't move and you can't see it. I worked around the toilet bowl with each shim. One of the easiest projects to fix!!!!!!!
