Questions & Answers

Textured Walls?

Does this work well with textured (spray-on) walls? Given the low price may just buy it and try it.
Asked by: Jim
Just finished painting a bedroom...didn't put blue tape anywhere...just used the paint edger around the baseboards, ceiling, entrance door, closet door, and windows. This thing works brilliantly once you get the hang of it, and it's not as as slow to use as some videos make it seem. This is far faster and more effective than taping off everything. Some tips...lightly set the pad on the surface of pain in a paint tray... don't get paint on anything but the pas of the tool. Keep the black edge guides up while loading. When you place it flat against the wall, start about two inches away from the edge (baseboard, etc.) and move the pad toward the edge. Right before you get to the edge, lower the black edge guide, then draw it along the wall using even, moderate pressure. Reload and repeat. Be sure to keep those black edge guides clean, including underneath. Great product!!!

Is it better to apply paint with brush than dunking it in the tray, Most people say you make a mess dunking it?
Asked by: Mike
Yes, you must apply the paint with a brush, and make sure you don't get paint too close to the front edge of the paid (where the wheels are). Otherwise, overloading the front edge will result in paint spilling over the front side, getting on the wheels, and eventually getting paint where you don't want it.

I notice that the edger can pivot. Is there a way to prevent that by "locking" it in place? My crown molding is not high enough to effectively use the wheel guides.

It seems to leave a small gap between ceiling or trim and wall. Happen to anyone else? Suggestions?

Asked by: Liz
I do not experience any gaps. Perhaps your edger is 1) defective, 2) paint pad attached incorrectly or 3) paint pad edges are worn (and needs to be replaced).

While using the pole extension, it’s almost impossible to apply even pressure which can cause paint to run Down the wall. I tried applying paint to the pad with a paint brush, and by lightly putting directly into the paint. Either way, I could not get an even amount of paint to the wall. Some areas of the wall had paint. Even a second pass couldn’t make a consistent a nice paint edge. The concept of the product is a great idea, just a bad design. The pads and how they hold paint too just doesn’t seem to work. I did watch YouTube tutorials before using this product before purchasing. Still the product just doesn’t live up to solving the problem.

I used this at the end of a long extension pole to do the cut-in on our 17'-high entryway walls. It worked beautifully! Very clean edge at the ceiling line and not a single bleedover. I did not dip the pad into paint, I used a brush to load the pad -- you can control how much goes near the edge of the pad that way, and I got better results. Also be sure to clean the guard and wheels every time you load it. I used very short little strokes, and you have to get the angle of the extension pole right to get it flat on the wall. I only had to go up the ladder a couple times in the corners to finish by hand, but I did the vast majority from the ground, which was a major bonus. Where has this thing been all my life?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money I bought this yesterday and the pad came off. I tried for a very long time to put the pad back on and finally gave up and did the edging with a sash brush. This is cheaply made and basically useless.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont put a pole attachment... If you dont fit on a pole! Loose fit, cant put adequate pressure. Will ruin your edges. Designed for a price point and 2 dollars more would have made a better product.

I did try light dipping and the one persons suggestion to load it with a brush. Essentially it drips and runs everywhere. Also there isn't enough angle in the pole extension making it awkward for people to edge the ceiling. My Ceiling will be white while the walls are a different color. I am very glad I started with the ceiling because this ran all down my walls. Dripped on my arm and was overall a waste of money. I see people rating it highly but for me it was an epic fail. Having successfully used edgers in the past I was disappointed.
