Would this work on textured walls? Thank you!

Asked by: momof8
Not very well...depending on how textured you are talking. If you are talking about just a nap texture via roller, it works fine, if you are talking about on walls textured with extra mud, not very well...You would have to put it on thick and that would create a capillary problem which would result is the rollers ultimately getting paint on them and thus paint on your ceiling. Here is a video how I use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idQU7jvJIIU

4.75 in. x 3.75 in. Paint Edger Classic Design is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forget the Tape I tried all the edging tools to save time and money on all the blue tape. This is the only one that consistently provided good results. As others have said (and with all painting equipment), DO NOT OVERLOAD IT. Gently dip in paint and wipe off excess in the tray. You will be able to see the paint on the pad and if it comes beyond the hairs then you have too much. PATIENCE is very important. Do not start directly on the edge, wipe the pad below where you're going to edge and then do a second pass on the edge with the plastic rollers touching the ceiling. Visually inspect the rollers to ensure no paint has gotten on them. I found this simple one much better than the other model with the turning handling. The turning handle causes issues at times. This is great item is you have the patience to use it. It will save much time opposed to taping but you must be careful with it and always make sure the rollers are clean and the pad is not overloaded with paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge time saver This tool makes cutting in on the ceiling a breeze, and gives you a nice straight line (with respect to how straight the ceiling is, at least). You can use it for other corners, as well, but I mainly stick to the ceiling with it. A few notes: avoid getting any paint on the wheels, the second you do, you will get paint on the ceiling. For this reason, I still tape the ceiling, but I don't have to be exactly to the corner anymore, making it much quicker to tape - and providing more protection for the roller hitting the ceiling. Tape is cheap, and in this scenario - it is cheap insurance. Another note, be very light with the pressure, especially on the bottom of the tool, as paint will collect there and you can get a lot of paint at the bottom of the cut in. What I usually do there is just make another pass, but at the bottom of the cut in to wipe the paint further down, thus removing the chance of a run or a thick visible buildup. The pad pops off quite easily and is really easy to clean, making the reusability very high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TOTALLY WORTH IT I don't know if i have O.C.D. or what but it takes me forever to trim my ceilings! I got this product hoping it would work well enough that it wouldn't take me HOURS to trim my ceiling. I was very happy. My ceilings are white (like most are) and my walls i was painting a dark grey. I followed the directions on the package and it worked but it didn't work well enough for my expectations. I figured it out though. The pad holds A LOT of paint. if you dip it in the paint to load it as the directions say it holds so much that the paint ended up on the ceiling. I also found that a few wispy bristles from the pad would point up and mark my ceiling. I taped the ceiling leaving the wall fully exposed and i used a paint brush and loaded the pad with that to control how much paint went on the pad. IT WAS PERFECT!!! If you have a hard time like i do trimming up to your ceiling buy this today!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a piece of junk. No instructions how to clip the pad on. No customer service from the man... This is a piece of junk. No instructions how to clip the pad on. No customer service from the manufacturer’s website. So.. you start to paint, you notice it is alternately scraping and depositing paint streaks on the ceiling. THEN the pad flips off (I was working in a stairwell so I was using this chunk of garbage on a pole) and bounces off the handle depositing paint on the walls that had been finished earlier and dripping paint on the stairs. Half an hour of extra clean up and the problem of edging the line where the ceiling meets the wall is still not solved. DO NOT BUY!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LIFESAVER! This product was an absolute lifesaver on my last project. It probably cut the time I spent painting in half. My hand isn't steady enough to paint around trim and ceilings freehand & I hate having to tape everything off, so I gave this a shot & it worked perfectly. I didn't tape off a single thing & my edges are perfect. One tip though - don't dip this into a paint pan (even a shallow one), get a separate brush & brush the paint on. If you get too much paint on it, it will squeeze out the edges and/or get on the rollers, and thus, on your ceiling & woodwork. As long as you brush the paint on though, you're good to go! I'll never paint another room without this handy item!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite tool These are great. The trick is to not overload the pad. Since we work as a team, the roller and tray are in use at the same time. The edger person uses the loaded roller to get paint on the edging pad, or may very carefully rest the pad on the paint in the tray -- just enough to pick up paint on the hairs. Always check the rollers are clean before touching the walls. If you get too much paint on the pad it can leave a ridge on the edge but that can be smeared off by swooping back on each stroke to smooth it. I've never refilled the pad, had this one for maybe 12 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Faster then Tape, not good for baseboards I recently painted the kitchen, and dreading the project (as I always do painting), I thought I'd give this tool a try. It works great with a few tricks. First, for those having issues getting paint on the guards and ceiling...don't saturate the entire pad. You only need to get the tips of the bristles loaded. Too much paint causes your problem. Also, be sure to apply just the right amount of pressure. It did not work well for the baseboards for me, but I think it's due to a thin profile on the trim. For these, I stayed with blue tape.
