Should you put this caulk in before or after you’ve sealed the concrete?

    Answer This Question

I had this same question and did some searching online. I ended up using this Sika product, waiting a week, then applying a concrete sealer over the entire surface. That was about a year ago. I don’t see any issues with the Sika or the concrete sealer.

You shouldn’t seal the concrete before applying Sikaflex because sealer will close the pores and the Sikaflex will separate from the edge of the gap when the joint expands which will allow water to seal in and freeze etc.

Trusted product for sealing between the driveway and house! Make sure to fill all gaps before you apply so you're not draining material into the ground. Hoping this holds up for many years.

This brand sand stone color is a little more red than I like. Rapid set quite offering there's without special order, so now I tried this. Sandstone matches older concrete better than gray which is usually a little too white. Here is a photo of it next to rapid set.

I purchased this 29 fl. oz. Sikaflex self-leveling horizontal joint elastic polyurethane sealant in sandstone to fill the expansion joints in my driveway. Easy to install after cleaning the joints & filling with backer rod(I used pipe foam insulation cut to a thickness depending on the gap) . This self leveling sealant flows smooth no tooling required. I took my time with slowly releasing into the joints while looking for contact on both sides of the joint if not go back add some more. I topped with dry sand after each joint was filled to blend in with the concrete. It took 4- 29oz tubes to seal around 140ft of expansion joints in my driveway&sidewalk. I also repaired all the cracks with hydraulic cement, now I don't have any grass/weeds growing in my driveway.

Easiest expansion joint sealant you'll ever use.
Used the tan color to redo the expansion joints in my exposed pea gravel driveway, joint between the garage, joints on the walk to the front door, & two small pads for garbage cans. Self levelled perfectly. The drive has a 10-deg slope & it still worked. 135' total & I used 16 of the 29 oz cartridges. The gaps were 1" wide; I tried to make the depth 1/2" using sand & 1" backer rod, but sometimes it was 1"+. The cracks were filled with Sika Crack Flex textured Self-Leveling Crack Repair.

Pool coping or cracks or whatever!
Lets start with I am no expert. Gaps varied from 1/4 to 5/8 and depth also. Pool required a little over 100 feet of backing rod and 10 tubes. Tips, I would probably drop a little bit of sand in the spots that were super deep to cut back material. Play sand over the top after maybe an hour of cure time. My suggestion on this is make sure your sand is dry and less is more. I kind of dented some spots but I am being picky. Drag the gun upside down with the tip in the crack.

            CHECK THE DATE!!
significant color variance and consistency in each tube used. product had 2 months left on shelf life, quality degradation caused not only color inconsistency but did not level completely where I had to go back and "mix in" during application. good product, poor performance for this job. starting over... aack!

Great concrete repair product. Used to fill in low spot on driveway that held water. First use was a year ago for sealing wide concrete joints. Absolutely perfect seal after a year. Most recently used to fill in low spot. Easy application and self leveling. I applied light sand to surface after 20 minutes to make it look like rest of concrete.

Used it to fill in spaces caused by separation of pavers on my driveway. Sand and other fillers washed away. Easy to apply. Flows out and levels quickly. Dries fast. so far so good.
