Questions & Answers

can this be used to repair cracks in garage floors

Asked by: Wiggy
After reading the answers to my question I used it to repair a large crack in one of the garage floor slabs caused by settling. I cleaned the crack with a brush followed by vacuuming then filling it a little at at time adding more as the material settled into the crack but before it cured. It worked great and I actually used less than I thought I would based on prior comment by others.

Am I able to sand this material after it cures?

Am I able to sand this material after it cures?
Asked by: Sean
I have not tried to sand ours. The way it sets up it looks like it would damage the seal that it forms. It does shrink down after a few months.

10.1 oz. Crack Flex Concrete Sealant is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 84.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Crack Filler I used this product on some horizontal floor cracks in my poured concrete basement floor. The cracks were all less that a quarter of an inch so although the product advertises use in applications up to one-inch cracks, my job was a bit simpler. It went on very easily and set up fairly quickly. I let it dry overnight and no issues the next day. The instructions say it is tack-free in one to two hours and cures in three to five days, but in view of my narrower crack size it seemed to set up more quickly. Plan ahead in using this because the instructions indicate it should be used in one day. It is not a product you would open once and store for later use as well, as you might with a silicone caulk tube. This Is the same cartridge style that you would see for caulking but it is definitely different material specifically designed for concrete applications. It has been in place weeks now with no issues. I would highly recommend it for horizontal crack applications

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Preparation of the crack was the hard part. This sealant is somewhat self leveling. A putty knife is required. You will want to check it as it sets up as it does flow into the crack and you may need to add more sealant and smooth with the putty knife again. It was slower curing than I expected. This was done in my son's house in Phoenix, AZ where it is dry, so I expected it to cure faster. Not drying so fast may be good if it is a long crack as it gives you time to work with it smooth it out. The crack had variations in width to be fair to the product. I had very satisfactory results. Home Depot sells a pair of Gorilla gloves, that worked well in protecting my hands and survived to protect another day. I cleaned the putty knife with a wet paper towel. Cut the very tip of the tube as it will give you more control of the sealant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best In Class - Have Used Sika for 5 Years I've been using this product for over 5 years to seal driveway cracks and it dispenses and holds up much better than 2 similar products I have tried. The competing products are harder to pump out of their cartridges (which is important if you are using a lot of tubes) and they do not have the flexibility and long-term elasticity of the Sika sealant. Be sure when you use this that you first fill the crack with a pre-filler (my favorite is limestone base because it compacts) else you'll waste the sealant down the crevice of the crack, which is expensive. Also, if you live in a cold climate, never let the sealant fill above the level of the concrete, else your snow shoveling equipment will snag it and pull it out.
