my driveway has numerous cracks, (lots of them) all mostly 1/2 inch wide. Can i apply Sikaflex to the cracks? Sounds like its very strong, and I wouldn't mind having a few bumps here and there,I rather not have to open the cracks wider to fill them down. Also can i sand them after and make them a bit more even?

Hello and thank you for your question. Yes, Sikaflex Self Leveling Sealant can be used in that application. You can also use Sikaflex Crack Flex which is textured to match concrete. The area must be 100% flat, as these are self leveling products. All the crack must be clean and sound. Do not use any chemicals to clean the cracks. The sealant has a 1/2" depth limitation, if the crack exceeds this, you will need backer rod. Sika 3/4" Backer Rod is the perfect size for 1/2" wide cracks/joints.

I have a slight slope to my driveway. Can this still be used?

Asked by: Swamp
MY answer is yes. This product is thick enough that it shouldn't run. My driveway also had a slight slope and it worked well.

What do you do when foam backer rod is too thick to fit into the gap you are trying to seal? I have a very small gap between my basement floor and wall that I'm trying to seal, but even the thinnest diameter backing rod will not fit into the gap.....and when there is no backing rod, the sealant simply disappears into the gap. Looking for any recommendations that anyone has---Thank you.

You slice the backer rod in half or in quarters and push it through the crack with a putty knife far enough into the gap to give you a base. Then fill the gap with caulk. Or another suggestion is to fill the gap with play sand. Sand works well to fill very small gaps. If the sand keeps disappearing, you've got a bigger gap underneath, so keep putting sand in until it's filled to a point you can add the caulk.
