Only removed about 1/2 inch of tar in driveway expansion joint before filling with Sika self leveling caulk. In hot weather melted tar is coming up around the caulk. Would use of a baker rod between the two products solve the problem or should all of old tar filler be removed?
Asked by: BD
I can't answer. If the melted tar meets the sealant then you will have a good seal.If there's a space then I would fill it with sealent.

can you paint over this product
Asked by: Rich
Hello and thank you for your question. Sikaflex Self Leveling Sealant can be coated in 7 days. Sika has found that oil, water, and rubber based paints work the best but testing is always recommended since there are so many different variations (paint a small area). Do not use paints which are silicone based paints or paints with high solvent content. Paint manufacturers should be contacted for compatibility recommendations. They would know the surfaces which are approved to bond to. Sikaflex Self Leveling Sealant is a 100% polyurethane sealant.

My contractor recommended Sikaflex to my husband and I to place on the exterior of where our garage walls meet the slab. The structure is monolithic so the walls are resting on the slab causing water to slip under during rains. I feel like self-leveling is not what he had in mind- as I imagine that would just level out over the ground, not stay in the crack itself. Can someone point me in the direction of the correct Sikaflex product I should use for this job? Thank you!
Asked by: Adell
You are right about the self leveling, it works best on flat surfaces because it will run. This product is probably best suited for your application. Sikaflex 10.1 fl. oz. Concrete Fix Sealant Model # 7116100 Internet #300934560. Wear some disposable gloves, it is a great product but it can be messy.

Can this product be used to fill a low spot where water collects and doesn't drain in a bathtub?

Asked by: Ropchips
I would not recommend this product for that use. This product is more geared towards filling cracks and crevices in the ground such as concrete expansion joints. Also, this product is grey which, (I'm assuming your tub is white), will not be very aesthetic. I would recommend using some sort of malleable putty to level your tub out.

29 oz. Gray Self-Leveling Sealant is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 73.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stuff works great, just use some common sense Bought this 2-1/2 years ago(sandstone color) to fill some cracks in the driveway. The most important thing when applying this product is apply it when it will be dry and warm for a few days to let it cure properly. The product has not shrunk or seperated from the concrete in the 2 years+ it has been down. You may have to apply a few layers over a few days so the product can level correctly and evenly, but the extra work is well worth it. Like I said it is still looking good. It has performed as expected, you just have to be smart when applying the product, not when it is going to rain soon or the temperature will be below 40 degrees.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product but watch expiration date. This is a great product, which I have used before and will give it 5 stars if fresh and not setting on hot shelves somewhere until it almost expires as mine did. I ordered this online because the local store had been out of the gray for a month. When i got it in June I notice the expiration date was July. No problem I said because I would use it all by then. Well it was very thick ( dried out ) and had globs that stopped up the nozzle several times. Very hard to work with not at all like the same stuff i have used before that was fresh and flowed great. This Sikaflex sealant is great stuff and I will use it again but will make sure it is not near the expiration date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's SELF LEVELING! This is a high quality product that performs exactly as described. Some have described it as " runny ". The consistency is exactly as it should be in order to perform as it was designed to. If you read the instructions and follow them you will be satisfied with the results. I am a professional contractor and have used this product on driveway and sidewalk expansion joints where the original wood has deteriorated. You cannot use this product when the surface you are working on is not level. it "WILL" run to the lowest point. However, Sika makes other products with a similar color and formulation only with a thicker consistency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I am a basement waterproofer and use this product constantly. We use it to fill cracks not only in sidewalks but on basement walls for small hairline cracks. Those who say it doesn't adhere to cement must of applied product to cement that was damp or got damp before product cured. When I go back to a wall and need to peel it off, I have to use a hand held jack hammer to remove. Make sure to fill large sidewalk cracks with foam rope (my preferred method) or sand. Fill crack 3/4 full to leave a nice even surface after product is applied. I love this product and will not use anything else! Great stuff. I've also heard that the Military and Ford use it. If those guys use it....how can you go wrong?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product is very inconsistent among different tubes. While the product is fairly easy to apply and flows/levels nicely, the product varies drastically between different tubes. I purchased 12 - 29 oz tubes (6 grey and 6 tan). 2 tubes of each color were as expected. 3 of each color were marbled when coming out of the tube (gray or tan with white streaks, like it wasn't mixed properly), and 1 tube of each had clear liquid coming out of the tube for the first third of the tube. Looked like oil. Very poor product quality control. I'm hoping the marble won't affect the durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff rocks! Having used Sika brands for Military applications, I had a great feeling this stuff would be superior. It is! For large, or deep cracks, you MUST fill the void first! If you don't, and since the product flows, it will sink down to the bottom of the crack, causing you to go over the crack many, many times. Use sand, or crushed rock, both sold at The Home Depot to fill voids. Use a screwdriver to work what you use to fill the void into the cracks too. You can even tap the void filler down and pack it. After the void is filled, then use the product. The product does flow nicely, this is what you want and is certainly NOT a bad thing. Flow also means is self levels, giving nice even smooth results from end to end, or side to side in the crack. The gray is bright, I've not used the sandstone color myself, but to me, seeing a gray crack, is better then a black crack line in my driveway. I've used 5 tubes of it on my drive and it dries quickly and stays pliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is WAY COOL I had cracks in my expansion joints. The cracks were allowing water flow that was expanding the crack and would cause big problems. I wanted a DIY solution and tried this. It was very cool. The product is thin so it flows a little. Just use a calk gun to apply. It's thin consistency allows it to flow into the crack and finish very smoothly. It is rubbery when done so it should flex with the seasons. Most importantly, it sealed completely allowing no water to go through. Bam. That said, it really flows. If using it on a small crack make sure it goes into the crack or it will flow like syrup and just make a mess. Due to how thin it is, it will only work on a horizontally crack. It will just run down a wall. It does come in color and the 'sandstone' looked much better than grey at my house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product and easy to apply After much research for caulking around my pool between the brick and the concrete I settled on Sika flex. I used my dremel to get the old caulking out and what a time saver it was. I then used both foam and sand to fill in where it was needed. If you do not fill in the open spots the caulking will keep draining down the crevices so prep work was very important. I must say that I was prepared after reading other reviews and had plenty of cardboard to set the caulking gun on when I was moving around the pool (approx 120') Do your self a favor and buy a can of mineral spirits or similar product that Sika recommends because on may occasions I got the caulking on the concrete and would have been impossible to come off otherwise. The product flowed easily and I used 8 - 29oz. tubes for 120'. I did have 1 tube that the bottom came off completely in the gun and Sika went all over the gun and my grass and what a mess.. Other than that it was great and within 12 hours was set up and cured....
