Product Overview

  • Higher R-value per inch than standard flat-sheet rigid foam
  • Moisture/air barriers eliminate the need for house wrap
  • Suitable for walls, floors, roofs and ceilings, indoors and out
SilveRboard Rigid Foam Insulation is a high performance flat-sheet insulation material made from Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) which is coated with a layer of reflective film laminated on both sides. This highly effective combination of materials offers a higher R-value per inch compared to traditional flat-sheet rigid foam insulation, as well as provides built-in moisture and air barriers which eliminate the need for house wrap. SilveRboard Rigid Foam Insulation (EPS) offers builders a higher performance product which increases job-site efficiency and reduces labor costs.
  • SilveRboard acoustic reduces sounds transmission (STC 19) through interior walls and can be used in conjunction with fiberglass batt to meet or exceed most building code - sound numbers
  • SilveRboard acoustic rigid foam insulation (EPS) can be used for floor, wall and roof insulation for above and below grade - indoor and outdoor- ideal for insulating garage and shed doors
  • SilveRboard acoustic is ideal for walls, floors and ceilings, bathrooms/laundry rooms, theater and quiet rooms- providing low profile thermal and acoustic attenuation
  • Creates thermal envelope for maximum heat/cooling efficiency
  • Built-in waterproofing eliminates need for house wrap or additional vapor barriers

This question has already been answered on this website. Just look at the answers about the same issue which have been provided for similar insulation with one side covered in foil.

How rigid is the material?

I want to create a roof for my office cubicle from this material. My cubicle walls are 4' apart, so I am hoping to prop sheets of this material between the cubicle walls. Will they sag in the middle, or is the material rigid enough that they will lie straight? Thank you.

It's a sheet of polystyrene sandwiched between some kind of reflective foil. As for cutting it, someone said to use a sharp knife or box cutter. I tried that and was left with a jagged edge and a mess of polystyrene balls everywhere . I kept hitting hard dense pockets of the stuff that ended up falling out in chunks. With many more cuts to make, I fired up an old bandsaw at the lowest speed and the cuts came out so much cleaner and straight, and with a smooth solid edge. Much better, (and faster). I imagine a table saw with a fine tooth blade at the slowest speed will work too. There's still some cleanup needed so have a vacuum handy. I bought this because my house, as well insulated as it is, has way too many windows for such a hot climate as Vegas. You can feel a heat wave as you walk past them, so I wanted to fill in these windows with this Silverboard to see just how much of a difference it can make, and it indeed makes a huge difference. My hvac doesn't need to cycle on/off as often now, and I can get the house much colder even when my outside temp gauge is reading 122 degrees (yes, it does get that hot here). After I cut them to size, I simply placed them between the glass and my wooden-slat blinds so you can't see them at all. I can remove them at any time, but for now nobody even knows they are there. The money I'll save on my electric bill will easily pay for them, plus I have a much colder house in the summer. I now keep my thermostat around 78 instead of 72 as it doesn't take long before it's too cold inside.

Did the job of dumping somewhat noise from the AC condenser unit of my neighbor. Used PL300 10 fl. oz. Foamboard VOC Adhesive to mount and aluminium tape to cover the joints. PL300 works very well. I also used a table saw and Freud's 60 teeth rip blade to cut to size to fit to the wooden frame. Comment: I ordered 3 x 5 pieces in two ways. The first one was to home delivery of two boxes. They came via UPS on the same order one day after another so at first I was puzzled as I thought the second box was stolen or lost in shipment. The second delivery was to a HD local pickup. The package was mistreated in shipment as corners of panels were compressed and the external panels were severely dented.

They worked perfectly for my application. Because they have double-sided foil they reflected outside heat away while the inside foil kept the heat in when it was cool outside. Ideally, you cut the panel 1/2" longer so that the panel bows slightly away from the door to create an air gap for maximum efficiency.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I think I could've made the same thing by going to an arts and crafts store. Difficult to cut; the edge tends to crumble. As for sound reduction, I'm not sure because I installed it along with two other products.

This product definitely did not meet my expectations, there was no perceivable difference in sound intensity coming from the kitchen of my neighbour across the double drywall and a Masonite board. So I had to add denim material-based insulation at about the same cost on top of this STS KIT - I DID NOT WANT TO INVEST ADDITIONAL LABOUR TO ALREADY CUT AND INSTALLED STS KIT material - to almost totally eliminate the sounds of conversation across the wall in a townhouse. Would definitely not recommend a STS KIT for sound insulation.
