AnswerI thought the same thing happened to me, but it was tucked away inside the lamp shade. Ultimately, build from the top down following the order of the leg with the cord through it.

Overall I love the way this looks in our home! It eliminated having both an end table and table lamp so now there is space to place my coffee and book. My only complaint is how low the shelves sit. I wish the middle one sat about 6 inches higher, but it doesn't bother me enough to return it. Lastly, I couldn't find the assembly instructions until AFTER it was fully assembled. If the same happens to you, start from the top and work your way down.
