Great product, quality and thoughtful design
I drink espresso every day on my home machine and drink Americanos. It's the biggest thing hat I miss when I go on road trips or go camping, so I started looking for portable makers that I could use with my Jetboil. This one was newer to market and I couldn't be happier! super easy to use, great pressure for legit crema in the wild. I have specific coffee preferences so it was cool to get 4 pods to use for my own grinds. I think for most users though it is a HUGE advantage to know that you can just buy Nespresso pods and it will work with those as well. Great customer service from the company for additional questions that I had. Would definitely recommend to others.

I got this because I occasionally want an espresso, but don't want an espresso machine taking up space on my counter. It works with Nespresso pods (sold separately), but also with the included Smart Capsules that let you fill them with your own coffee grounds. It includes 4 Capsules, with lids, which makes them as convenient for travel as the pods. I used both the capsules and pods and prefer the capsules because they are cheaper to use, easier to use (less pieces involved), and I felt they produced a better espresso. When using the pods there are 2 adaptor pieces that have to be inserted. Its simple to use. Put the pod or capsule in and screw on the bottom. Add hot water and screw on the top. Then you just pump for about 20 seconds for an espresso. It makes a descent espresso that even has a little crema on top. Its also very easy to take apart and wash. I use it about 3 times a week and am very happy with it.

Very portable hand operated espresso maker that works with Nespresso capsules. Comes with a nice carry pouch. The kit includes the espressor maker intended to use nespresso capsules, plus four reusable capsules you can fill with your own coffee. FWIW, we tried, and those reusable capsules don't fit a conventional electric nespresso machine. I only used this with nespresso capsules, so this review will focus on that. The parts fit together easily, and have o-rings for the seals, so shouldn't need to be tightened too hard. I really liked that it came with a cover to keep the coffee end of the espresso maker clean when it was being stored or transported. I didn't get the assembly order correct the first time and had a "blow out" where I got a cup full of coffee grounds. I studied the little pamphlet again and realized I lift the disc out that goes below the capsule. I have attached photos showing the correct order of the parts. The instructions say pump at 1 stroke per second, which seems pretty slow, but i did that and the coffee came out good. You won't build up a lot of pressure like that. It might be worth trying different rhythms. The coffee looked great - even a little darker than what I get from my nespresso machine. It tasted good, somehow a little smoother than the electric machine made espresso. So, the short answer is that it works. The mechanism is plastic, so I don't expect it to last forever, but you don't have to push very hard at one stroke per second. I imagine if you wanted to get more pressure, and were pumping faster that the plastic parts wouldn't last long. This machine also gives you the option of doing an "extract" step where you pump a little, let the coffee extract, then pump some more. Something to play with and see what you like best... I'm a minimalist camper, so I don't see carrying this thing (with capsules) into the backcountry, but could see it being fun for car camping if you wanted machine-quality espresso and not instant coffee. I intend to take it to work and use it there - we have a hot water dispenser, but no nespresso machine, so this will let me make good coffee at work without having to buy a nespresso machine for work. The parts rinsed cleaned easily with tap water. I don't intend to scrub it with soap and water each cycle. Hope the rinsing is enough.

I am definitely going to take this Portable Simpresso Espresso Maker on my next camping trip. The instructions make the use look a bit complicated, but it is in fact very simple. Unscrew the bottom nozzle head, put the coffee grounds into the provided smart capsule, insert it without the cover into the nozzle head and screw that into the water tank. Fill the latter with boiling water, insert the hand pump and squeeze until all the water is gone. Voila, you have great tasting espresso. Just do not immediately unscrew the unit for cleaning to avoid burning yourself with any remaining hot water. I hope Simpresso will improve the espresso maker by adding a ring to set the unit onto the cup, which would improve the pumping process.

An excellent portable espresso machine. The plastic is thick and sturdy. Easy to pump. Very quick cleanup. Works great with ground coffee and the Nespresso pods. If you plan on traveling with prepacked capsules I suggest taping them shut. The lids on the capsules fit tight but they could pop off with jostling in the bag. Better safe than sorry. A ziplock baggie would also do the trick. Comes with a cup to fill the capsules that has a small indent on the bottom to pack the capsule properly. It worked fine using the same setting as my espresso machine but of course practice using your own grinder. Takes about 30 seconds to pump enough water through for one espresso. No need to clean if you are doing shots back to back as the unit doesn’t get coffee grinds in it like plunger press. Since it doesn’t take much effort to press the lever I don’t think it will break from stress. The internal guts are well machined. I don’t forsee the plastic cracking anytime in the near future even from repeated use. It weighs about 16 Ounces packed with all the accessories but empty capsules. Packed size is 9 inches long by 2.5 inches thick by 5 inches wide so very portable. I doubt I would take it on a long overnight backpacking but certainly a good option for car camping. For best results I find it best to only pull a shot and then add water for an Americano / long black. Otherwise your coffee is over extracted. If you already have a nespresso this makes nearly as good coffee on the go. Very simple cleanup. Worth buying a sleeve of pods for extremely easy cleanup If you don’t want to hassle with the grinds until you get home. Even with the empty capsules clean up is easy. Just tap it to remove most of the grinds. I compost mine and pack them home when camping so you can leave them in the capsule or toss into a small baggie to take home. Nespresso capsules are aluminum and easy to recycle when you peel out the foil lid to empty the used coffee.

The complete package rolled into one. Making espresso could not be made any easier. The best part about this espresso maker is that everything is included. And I mean everything. It even comes with a cup to pure the espresso into and 4 smart k cup that you can pure your own coffee into to make espresso. The pump action takes a bit of getting use to but after that your drinking your cup of Joe with ease. I really like the water proof carrying case as well. You can take this espresso maker anywhere. I'm really amazed at the quality I see here. The water chamber is enclosed in another plastic cylinder to protect from the extreme heat of the water for the coffee. Easy to clean and reuse. Espresso on the go. No problem. Super happy! P.s, there is a set of directions for k cups and a set of directions for the smart k cups. Not to be confused with the schematics/blueprint of how the device was built.

Smaller than a thermos but capable of delivering a single shot of Espresso. If you overpack the coffee into the filter, it won’t pump through. You gotta get it just right.

This makes some very good coffee, a similar concept to another device I've used, though that one sits on took of the mug/glass while you press, which has always made we wary of using it with some of my more delicate cups and glasses. This one stays in your hand, and is very compact. The design seems well thought out and stores easily in minimal space, with a nice carry case included for travel. The only issue I've found is that it makes an annoying squeaking sound when pumping, not incredibly loud but might be of concern if you want to use this in an otherwise quiet environment. Surprisingly easy to clean, and even includes its own cup that fits nicely over the end so it doesn't add much to the bulk, so all you really need is hot water.
