For a nail installation you will use (4) 0.148 x 3 into the base and (4) 0.148 x 3 into the post. For bolt installation you will use (3) 3/8 into the base and (3) 3/8 into the post. Please note all references to bolts are for structural-quality through bolts (not lag screws or carriage bolts) equal to or better than ASTM A307, Grade A.
