A:  Hi Gary, this is McKenzie from Simpson Strong-Tie. You can use (12) SD10112 screws instead of the nails, 6 into the beam flange and 6 into the post flange. Thanks

Q:What is the weight rating on this? Trying to decided whether to use this product a combo of the Accents series (L and 90 connectors) to attach a 4x4x8? beam to two anchored 4x4x7? posts. Which option would be best?

A:  Hi Shadrach78, thank you for your message. For load values on the BC post cap connection please see link below. To determine what would be the best option we would need to know what your demand loads are at that specific condition. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. https://www.strongtie.com/onepiecepostcaps_postcaps/bc_cap/p/bc

Q:What's the difference between the ZMAX #BC4Z-R and the #BC4 versions? They are the same dimensions and do the same job (right?). Is the steel gauge thicker in the former perhaps? Is the ZMAX rated for higher loads? And are screws or nails recommended?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hey Brian, this is Ricardo here with Simpson. Thank you for contacting us with your question. As far as the dimensions are concerned, they are the same on both part numbers that you provided. The steel gauge is also the same, but the BC4Z has a layer of zinc added to protect the part from corrosion. We call this coating our ZMAX coating. Lastly, there is no difference in the load values between the two and they both require the same size nail, which is a 0.162" x 3.5" common nail. If you have any other questions, please contact us at 800-999-5099.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Paul, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The BC post caps need to be installed with .162 x 3 1/2" nails. The bigger holes on the part are pilot holes and for manufacturing purposes only. Do not install bolts. If you need more information please feel free to contact us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to speaking with you.

My husband and I purchased a couple of these to build a horse shelter for my horse. Our other horse is due to have a foal any day so we had to act fast and build a shelter so we could separate my horse from her. The shelter was finished in two days. We wouldn't have been able to build a nice strong shelter without these post caps. It will help keep the shelter strong and safe for many years to come. Here is a photo of my horse Mr.Lance enjoying his dinner in his new shelter. Thanks Home Depot!

These were of very high quality but at $12.50 they were expensive. Simpson makes lesser grades that i could have used but these were what Home Depot decided to carry at that moment so i was stuck.
