Post and column bases secure the bottom of posts or columns to concrete and are perfect for decks or patio covers. Models are available for attaching to existing hardened concrete, wet concrete, as well as wood. The BCS allows for the post to beam connection of 2-2xs to a 4x post or 3-2xs to a 6x post. Double-shear nailing between beam and post gives added strength.
  • Provides a positive connection for a post to a wood deck
  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening
  • Reduces the chance of the post splitting and eliminates nailing into end grain
  • Not recommended for non top-supported installations (such as fences or unbraced carports)
  • Nominal size: Double 2x beam, 4x post
  • Made from 18-gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 10d common nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive® SD screws

Questions & Answers

What's the difference between this BCS ZMAX model and the one that's just BCS?

Asked by Andy August 13, 2020
1
Answer

The difference is the finish - the BCS2-2/4 has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection and the BCS2-2/4Z has the Z-MAX G185 galvanized finish which provides a medium level of corrosion protection. Please see the Corrosion section of our website for the recommended finish based on your application: https://www.strongtie.com/solutions/corrosion. Thank you!

How do you use these to support a joint in the beam where four 2x10s meet up?

Asked by Jim August 9, 2020
1
Answer

Post cap allowable loads are for a continuous beam. Unless otherwise noted, the beam may be spliced at the centerline of the post, and the maximum allowable download for each spliced beam is one half of the cap’s tabulated allowable download. Eccentricity induced in the post by spliced beams must be evaluated by the Designer. Tabulated uplift and lateral loads do not apply to spliced beam conditions. When spliced beams must be connected together to transfer design tension loads (lateral loads parallel to the beams), the connection must be by means other than the post cap. Thank you!

Is there a 6 in. post cap for a double beam instead of a triple beam

This for a triple 2 by joist beam

Why are you calling it 3 in x 6 in? It's for connecting 3 sistered 2xs, which is more like 4.5" ...

The correct Simpson part # is BCS2-3/6Z. One end of the connector opening is 4 5/8 in wide (three sistered 2 by xx joist) and the other end opening is 5 9/16 in wide (6 by 6 post).

Great product. Exactly what you need to attach double 2-by deck beams atop 4x4 posts. Too bad local H-D stores do not stock them.
