Can this Tension Tie be installed after the Joist are fastened to the Joist Hangers

Is there enough room for a portable drill be used to fasten the hex head screw to the ledger.
Asked by: LTC
Yes, would not be difficult to do. It would possible, if you use of an extension bit. I used a 3/8" ratchet with extension bit and it worked very quickly.

Is it available without galvanizing?

I would like 12 gauge and don't need galvanizing; is either or both available? Thank you!
Asked by: mrhealthy
According to the Simpson info I have: DTT1 is only available galvanized. DTT2 is available in either galvanized or stainless steel. The HD website is showing the DTT2SS version at $73.75/ea right now, which might be a little steep for most projects ;)

What other items are needed for full mount?

What do I need to actually attach this item? Does it come with any of it? Or where are the links to those other needed items.
Asked by: GreenJag
This connector can be used for a variety of applications, but if you are using it to provide the lateral load connection for a deck ledger then it can be fastened to the deck joist with (8) 10dx1½ nails (HDG) or (6) Simpson SD#9x1½ screws. The best way to anchor it to the house is with the Simpson SDWH27 HDG screw which does not require predrilling or a washer to use with the DTT1Z. This item is just the connector, but some locations sell a kit with 4 connectors and all the required screws. Simpson has a tech bulletin on their website with a variety of alternate installation details.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job This piece is significantly less expensive than all of its counterparts. It is not as robust, but it does the job. I had a cupped 2 x 10 on the outside of my deck and that was the only way to pull it back to the other joists. If I had to use the other ties that were more substantial, I would have been better off changing out the boards. The tie holds a 3/8" bolt, so it is not rated for as much weight. Never found a rating. Perfect for what I used it for.

I ordered this product online - it is a good product but i could not use it as specified. I did not have a header board to screw into. Just used couple of these. I had to use the DTT2Z-K2 kit , which is heavier duty so i could install it into the basement joists. It worked out well. Simpson products are very good with excellent instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck hardware A simple and needed item to help resist lateral forces and keep your deck tied to the house. Check simpsons website for proper install. I had to order them for in store pick up which was flawless. This is needed hardware which should be on the shelf though. Spend the money for simpsons various screws for your project. It will go together better and stronger.
