About This Product

The HUC is designed for structures requiring additional strength and safety factors. These face-mount joist hangers have concealed header flanges providing cleaner visible lines in exposed conditions. Some models of this heavy-duty hanger can be special ordered with a skewable seat and a seat that slopes as far as up to 45-degrees.

Q:Are the floor weight capacities given in the charts calculated as the amount of weight each hanger will hold? If so, the floor weight capacity could be doubled for two hangers and, if not, the floor weight would need to be divided between the two?

You could certainly add a shim to most connections, but please note that the size of the shim and quantity of nails required to transfer load adequately, will be up to the person designing the connection. I would advise instead to using the HUC28-2 concealed joist hanger instead. This can be special ordered from any distributor. Used this to hang 4x4 lumber for a box in my garden!

The product I received is different than pictured. If you look at the position of the screw holes...

The product I received is different than pictured. If you look at the position of the screw holes, the majority of them in the picture are on the inner side (towards the middle) of the bracket. The actual product I received has the row of 3 holes on the very outside edge of the concealed flange, rendering them much less effective for post-to-beam connections as shown in the product rendering. The majority of screw holes are far too close to the edge of the bracket to make a usefully strong connection. There are 4 screw holes towards the center of concealed flange, but if you only screw in those 4, you are skipping the other 6 completely, and this is a 6x8 hanger so that's not really an option! Would be fine for connecting to a header or something, but for post-to-beam it isn't quite right.

I bought 4 of these to hang my 4x4 beams from one loft to the other in my Tiny House to create a catwalk above the kitchen area. I didn't want to take away from the beauty of the beams with industrial looking joist hangers so I spray painted them black before I installed them. They were easy to install. I chose to use 3 1/2" screws and I am confident they will easily support the weight on the 7 ft beam. I liked them so well that I bought another set to mount on the opposite side of the kitchen area, creating an open rafter-feeling invisible "catwalk." That second set holds 2 more beams between which the stairs ascend/descend.

Strong enough to hold up on a backyard clubhouse

This is a simple but effective hanger that works well for places where you don’t want or can’t have the flanges sticking out the sides. In my case, I used it to hold a header in place where would have been unable to use normal hangers.
