Hello JP, The bracket is best suited for wood post answering from my use. I would expect you might have to figure out how to prevent rusting, vibration slippage, etc. A reasonable idea until someone points out why not.
This is a safety issue. No one can answer this without knowing what the lumber you are proposing to use will be supporting. Simpson will have the specifications for each of their products. I would suggest you contact Simpson Technical Services: https://www.strongtie.com/contact
I don't see why not..vertical or horizontal..should be adequate support.
Yes, works fine, but not as designed. Depending upon application, you may need to add horizontal bracing for support & side loads.
Simpson Strong-Tie is a manufacturer; we do not do any installations. Thank you!
I ordered about 100 of them 3 years ago. I placed the order online and they were $0.57 each. I would guess they've gone up a little in price since then. It doesn't matter if you are using treated lumber or not.
That I don't know..i used mine to span 16' 2x4..for a deck roof..4 guys were standing on them.no creaking no movement..
Simson does make a face-mount hanger for a 3 X 4 member, model HUC34 (concealed flange) which comes in Zmax. It is 2 9/16" wide so you would need a filler. It is also 14ga. so my guess is that it is fairly pricy. You might be able to use standard clip angles on each side Simpson A23's come in Zmax and they are 18 ga.
Did these sit flush?
I don't think so, unless you can drill holes and use self-tapping screws. It might work.
