Hello JP, The bracket is best suited for wood post answering from my use. I would expect you might have to figure out how to prevent rusting, vibration slippage, etc. A reasonable idea until someone points out why not.

I know these are designed for 2x4s but would they be adequate support for 2x6s?

This is a safety issue. No one can answer this without knowing what the lumber you are proposing to use will be supporting. Simpson will have the specifications for each of their products. I would suggest you contact Simpson Technical Services: https://www.strongtie.com/contact

I don't see why not..vertical or horizontal..should be adequate support.

I bought these for what I thought was more support but no so instead of using horizontal can I use them vertically?

Yes, works fine, but not as designed. Depending upon application, you may need to add horizontal bracing for support & side loads.

Can simpson strong tie bracket FB24R be ordered thru home depot and at what price? Not using treated lumber.

I ordered about 100 of them 3 years ago. I placed the order online and they were $0.57 each. I would guess they've gone up a little in price since then. It doesn't matter if you are using treated lumber or not.

How mich weight cannthe bracket support?

Simson does make a face-mount hanger for a 3 X 4 member, model HUC34 (concealed flange) which comes in Zmax. It is 2 9/16" wide so you would need a filler. It is also 14ga. so my guess is that it is fairly pricy. You might be able to use standard clip angles on each side Simpson A23's come in Zmax and they are 18 ga.

I don't think so, unless you can drill holes and use self-tapping screws. It might work.

This definitely made it easier to install my fencing. Like others mentioned it could be improved by being a little deeper, especially when you use the recommened screws where the screw head sticks out on the inside of the bracket into the 2x4 not allowing the 2x4 end to fit flush into the bracket, taking away some of the metal lateral bracing. To remedy that, before installed I simply placed the bracket on the 2x4 end, marked the holes with a pencil, and then used my drill and a counter sink bit about a 1/4" deep on those hole marks so the screw would fit flush. Added about 30 seconds to each joint but fit much nicer. The only other snag someone might encounter is a couple of my posts were landscape timbers, not fence posts. Since these are rounded the brackets would not align when secured on the rounded edge. You can either chisel the post square where the bracket meets, use a table saw to rip the whole post square, or change the post. This will only be a problem when rounded landscape timbers are used and the bracket will be secured to the rounded side.

These are good for a project that needs fast setting of 2x4’s or for a one man project like I did. Great for budgeting but if a strong connection is needed go with a heavier duty tie.

Used these brackets on a small fencing project around my garbage cans at the B&B. Easily installed and used for hanging the fencing panels between the posts. Work well, but I had to adjust the nailing points on the end boards of the panels to accommodate the side flaps on the brackets. Would have liked the bracket side flaps to have been a bit deeper to keep the nails/screws farther from the ends of the horizontal 2x4s on the panel.

Overall they work really well, and make assembling a fence much easier. My only suggestion would to make the bracket wider (e.g. the part that screws into the 2x). This would prevent the end of the 2x from splitting/cracking over time, and also make it easier to screw at an angle towards the center of the 2x, which is hard to do considering it's right against the 4x4 post.
