Attach the HU hangers to concrete or GFCMU walls using hex-head Titen 2 screws. Titen screws for GFCMU (1/4" x 2 3/4" — model TTN2-25234H) and for concrete (1/4" x 1 3/4" — model TTN2-25134H) are not provided with the hangers. The HU410 is a min/max hanger which means the fasteners in the round holes will produce the minimum capacity and fasteners in the round AND triangle holes will produce the maximum capacity. It is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify if MIN or MAX is to be used. Thank you!
The HU shown here has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection and would not be recommended for exterior applications. We offer hangers with a Z-MAX or HDG finish which provide a medium level of corrosion protection and are suitable for some applications of wet service. We also offer some hangers in stainless steel which provides a high level of corrosion protection. Please see the Corrosion section of our website for finish recommendations based on your conditions. Feel free to contact our Engineering Support Department with questions: 800/999-5099. Thank you!
The hanger allowable loads depend on the wood species they are being attached to. The loads can be found on our website/catalog (listed per hanger), though our connectors are not recommend for swing applications. These are unsuitable for pressure treated wood. Simpson markets hangers for treated wood under "ZMax." Check out Simpson's ZMax for 2X6's, and you'll notice in the details that it's okay for 2X6's and 2X8's.
The HU88 is what we refer to has a MIN/MAX hanger. It requires a quantity of 10 - 16d common nails (0.162" diameter x 3 1/2" long) to the header and 4 - 16d common nails to the joist for the minimum capacity (fill round holes) or a quantity of 14 - 16d common nails to the header and 6 - 16d common nails to the joist for the maximum capacity (fill round and triangle holes). Please confirm with the Designer whether the application requires the minimum or maximum capacity. Thank you!
8 inch wide measurement
There is not a specific length limit, rather hangers are rated for allowable loads (download and uplift). Please see our website or current catalog for the HU212 allowable loads based on the wood species it is being attached to. It is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to calculate the demand load for the specific application. Thank you!
