Hi Kittygirl, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding LU26 and LU26Z Joist Hangers. The LU26 hanger has a low level of zinc coating for corrosion resistance and is suitable for interior dry environments. The LU26Z has our ZMAX® coating which is suitable for exterior applictions. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. -Stacy
The LUS46Z has a width (between flanges) of 3 9/16", a height of 4 3/4", the bearing area (seat) is 2" deep, and each flange is 1 1/16" wide. Thank you!
So you are spanning 10 ft. I recently built a deck and it was a 10 ft span using joists at 16 in centers and it passed inspection fine using the appropriate tie for the wood.
I asked my structural engineer how to attach these to masonry for holding floor joists. He said to attach an appropriately sized piece of wood to the masonry using Tapcons (for example) and then attach the joist hanger to the wood using the Simpson specified nails or screws.
Keith, Use the screws if there is the slightest force of horizontal pullout in each hole. Screws will not pull out with the wind racking the structure, like nails. In the angled holes use 12-16 penny skinner nails or 3" deck screws. It stops the horizontal pull and adds to the shear strength. Framers that only use the angled holes are taking a chance. Robert
No, this is the hanger for installing floor joists.
ZMAX® is a thicker coating (galvanized per ASTM A653 with a G185 coating) than the standard hot-dip galvanized coating (galvanized per ASTM A653 with a G90 coating). This thicker coating is available on select Simpson Strong-Tie connectors.
Thank you for your interest, but I’m sorry to say we do not have any connectors intended for swing applications. Our products have not been evaluated with regards to the forces that a swing may put on them. Thank you!
The only screw the LUS26Z is approved for installation with is the SD structural connector screw (SD9212 to the joist, and either SD9212 or SD9112 to the header). Pre-drilling is not required with this screw. Thank you!
We do not have evaluations/approvals for our products specific to the Massachusetts building code. We would suggest contacting your local building department for assistance. Thank you!
