I happened to have a Palm-nailer. If you're not familiar with them, they're air-powered and only take up about 3 1/2 to 4 inches of space. Great for tight angles. Also, if you have one of the angled extenders for a cordless/corded drill you can screw in galvanized lag bolts (smaller, about 1 5/8 long) into the wood through the holes. The screws are WAY easier than the nails...but also more expensive. Good Luck!

I'm using a 2"x8"x16' pine pressure treated board with this joist hanger. Is this the right size?

Yes, these will work for that but these are if you have an angle to your joists. Mine were set at 45* for an angled deck.

How do you install this item? I guessed just like any other hanger straight in with the nails?

I used 2 inch coated screws installed with my power drill with a 3 inch magnetic extension. Yes, a tight fit but doable. You may need a longer extension and/or longer screws. You may not be able to see what you are doing, might just have to do it by feel.

Screws for nails?

Simpson makes screws for their hangers that are actually stronger than the nails but either will work

Heavy duty galvanized construction that should last for many years. Expensive, but worth it as your deck or breezeway will not collapse for many, many years.
