Product Overview

From complex infrastructure projects to do-it-yourself ventures, Simpson Strong-Tie offers a wide variety of anchoring products to meet virtually any need. Our mechanical anchors are designed to install easily and securely into a variety of base materials, including concrete and brick to hollow and grouted CMU. They offer optimal performance even in the most demanding structural applications. The Strong‑Bolt 2 is a wedge-type expansion anchor designed for optimal performance in cracked and uncracked concrete as well as uncracked masonry.
  • Tri-segmented clip: Each segment adjusts independently, increasing follow-up expansion should the hole increase in size as a result of a crack
  • Dual embossments on each clip segment: Enables clip to undercut into the concrete thereby increasing follow-up expansion should a crack occur
  • Standard (ANSI) fractional anchor: Fits most fixtures and installs with common drill bit sizes and tools
  • Suitable for horizontal, vertical and overhead applications
  • Made from zinc-plated carbon steel

can these be used on exterior deck post bases?

Asked by Jay September 9, 2020

Answer

The STB2-62500 is zinc-plated which provides a low level of corrosion protection and limited to dry service. This anchor is also available in Type 304 stainless steel (STB2-625004SS) which provides a high level of corrosion protection and Type 316 stainless steel (STB2-625006SS) which provides a severe level of corrosion protection. Please see the following link to the Corrosion section of our website to determine the recommended finish based on your condition: https://www.strongtie.com/solutions/corrosion. Thank you!

We definitely have the capacities for our anchors, but there are many factors involved (what is it attaching to, what is the spacing, what is the demand load, etc.). Put all your hardware on the bolt before sinking it.
These things hold. Too deep and it's over. I got lucky tapping it in and then setting hardware and nuts over the top. But I was almost too deep and tried to correct a little. Nope. I think the bolt would have broke before it backed out any. Attach all your stuff before setting the bolt in the hole.
