pressure treated wooden deck

Depends on where you are going to use them. For deck hangers and such I would suggest nails are they have higher shear strength. However, for deck boards I would use screws.

Whats the shear rating on these nails?

Answer

The shear value will vary depending on what species of wood it is being fastened to, what gauge of steel it is going through, etc. Please refer to the National Design Specification (NDS) Table 12P which has allowable shear loads for nails with steel side members ranging from 20 to 12 gauge thickness. SCN nails are ASTM F1667 compliant, so they can be calculated per the equations in NDS (or customers can use the NDS tables). The complete NDS (and all the fastener tables) is available for free on the American Wood Council’s website: (Link to 2018 NDS) https://www.awc.org/pdf/codes-standards/publications/nds/AWC-NDS2018-ViewOnly-171117.pdf. Thank you!

I used these on my 2x10 hangers were used for my porch and they were easy to use. No issues when nailing them in, but it was a work out for sure! I would recommend using a nail gun if you can afford it.

Oh, YES! This old lady built a rack to slide her campershell off the truck solo! When my children got me the shell, it took three of them to put it on the truck! But I live alone! I was afraid it would hit the ground and crack if I tried removing it myself to bet a round-bale for the sheep in Winter! Simpson Strong-ties helped me cobble together a SOLID and STRONG rack! No wobble - no "wonder if..." - shell is safe till Spring! *Only mistake I made was not having enough of these 3 1/2" nails when I started - ran out and bought the BIG container!
