Answer This Question

A:  Hello Andrew, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The TP15 measures 1 13/16" width, this would not fit a 1x2 dimensional lumber. If you wish to explore alternatives please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to hearing with you.

Q:I need to deepen my rafter bays to accommodate more insulation. Could I use these to add 2x6s to my existing 2x6 rafters? The only load it would bear would be the sheetrock panels.

Q:Can I use bolts with this product instead of nails or screws? What diameter bolt would I use? I would like to connect two 2x4's together end-to-end through holes drilled through the 2x4's for a temporary structure.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Jeff, I am Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The TP15 (1-13"x5" 20 gauge) tie plate has 13 nail holes 0.140" diameter designed to receive 0.131"x2-1/2" (8d) nails. These are not designed to receive bolts. If you choose to drill out these plates and install through bolts do so at your own discretion. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

        Answer This Question

A:  I would ask an engineer. The rafter ties I have seen on 2x6s are much larger than these.

A:  Hi Cameron, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding the TP Tie Plate. The TP Plate could be used to tie rafters together, but that will need to be evaluated by the designer for your project as we do not provide load ratings for the TP Plates. We do have structurally load rated screws that are designed to be used to tie multiple members together which could be used such as the SDWS Framing Screw. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you -Stacy
