Questions & Answers

stand

Can you use it with out the stand? When you collapse the stand how tall is the saw with the stand attached? I am trying to figure out where I can store it when it is not in use.
Asked by: mtthws
Yes, you can use it without the stand. Collapsing the stand requires disconnecting it from the saw, so you need to store them as separate pieces.

Can I cut a 4x8 piece of plywood in half (48 inches each piece)?
Asked by: Charlie
Yes, with assistance to support the plywood and aid feeding. The table is 14" left of blade and fully extended is 26" right of blade. This is not enough surface to keep the plywood from bowing without additional support. Not something I would attempt alone.

Can it cut a 4' x 8' plywood in half lengthwise?

Asked by: Amf
Yes. In order to cut a 4 ft. x 8 ft. sheet you would need a fence that extends 24 in. It wouldn't be particularly safe to ct a full sheet lengthwise on any portable table saw like this one unless you had a helper present or specialized equipment like roller tables in use, preferably both.

is it easy to adjust the blade

is it easy to adjust the blade
Asked by: Don
Like all tables saws, this one lets you adjust the angle of the blade as well as the height of the blade above the table. Both adjustments seem reliable (although I seldom use the angle feature, I like my blade to be absolutely square to the table and, once I get it square, I tend to leave it alone. The good news is, as I use the table saw, raising and lowering the blade with the crank on front, it seems to always stay square. Except for the tabs in the miter slots this is an excellent value small contractor table saw. I'm not sure why Skil put those tabs there, it prevents you from using standard miter blocks to build jigs.

VERY poor quality miter gauge. Groove in table top should be standard flat bar for miter gauge. Miter gauge bar is to short I had to grind the tabs off of the table top so flat bar stock could fit and I could make a miter gauge that would really work.

I will have to say that I'm quite surprised about the quality of this table saw. My brother has a Dewalt and while it can do a few more things then this saw can, this saw has many of the same features.Quality unit, highly recommended

The saw works fine, but; I bought this saw specifically to do rabit cuts with a dado blade stack. First, I had an issue acquiring the proper tooling (nut, table plate, etc.) for the dado blade stack. Turns out, “Skil” discontinued the manufacture of these parts, however they can be purchased under the “Bosch” product name. I also had a problem with the blades lowering (on their own) during operation. I found an ofurace on a bracket, threaded onto the up/down threaded spindle, that would accept a set-screw (the orifice is not threaded). I added a screw, which provided the tension necessary to prevent the blade from lowering. The saw works fine, but this was a big pain.

Worst excuse for a table saw, worst excuse for a Skil product I've ever seen. No quality control, everything slapdash. Great options but some seriously questionable manufacturing methods. Assembly directions incomplete/wrong. Motor mount has so much slop, it's impossible to set the blade square to the table or parallel to the miter slots because the top of the blade moves freely within a 1/8" wide space. Checked on a surface plate, fence had a 0.46mm bow. No way to get it square in a home shop. I returned it the same day I picked it up. Staff at the service counter were so excellent and understanding, it make me think they've had these returned many time before.

Since it wasn’t available at my local Home Depot i took advantage of the free shipping and had it delivered to my house. UPS delivered it on schedule and the box arrived in very good condition. Assemble instructions are straight forward and it took about 90 minutes to setup and make slight adjustments to the fence to get it aligned properly. As reviewers have stated, I also ordered a fine-tooth blade, however I found the supplied blade was sufficient for my cutting needs. I ripped several 2X4 and the saw preformed faultlessly. The 15amp motor easily ripped eight-foot-long stock and didn’t bog down. So far I extremely pleased with this buy and would recommend this saw to anyone with a limited budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I just installed an oak staircase leading to my basement... I just installed an oak staircase leading to my basement and needed something to rip the treads and risers better than a circular saw. I am a novice at table saws so I bought this based on some online recommendations. Turns out this was just what I needed to do the job. Factory settings were accurate so I didn't need to adjust. The ripping fence has a ruler on the slide that is also accurate. It took some work to assemble. Again, I am a novice on table saws and the instructions seemed out of order. There was a Styrofoam block beneath the table and it took me a while to figure out that you need to tilt the saw blade to the 45 degree angle to get it out so give yourself an hour. But the saw itself works great. I bought a separate 60-tooth blade to cut the finished oak and made nice clean cuts. I would recommend this to anyone who is a weekend do-it-yourselfer like me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good saw but a few years behind Overall not a bad saw at all. The motor is loud but makes respectable power, the onboard storage is handy and the stand is solid. The instructions are definitely written with a novice in mind and go into excellent detail. The rip capacity is solid and the out feed supports are helpful. The downsides, given the price point, are the complete lack of any dust control at all and the non-standard miter slots. They are the 5/8 craftsman style and have two tabs at either end that make fabricating a jig or sled or getting an aftermarket miter gauge hard. The supplied miter is a complete afterthought and leaves a lot to be desired. now that ridgid portable saw with stand can go on sale for cheaper, means that this isn't a bad saw but there are much better bangs for your bucks out there.

Still running fine and I keep telling myself I'm going to sell it and get an upgrade for a higher end saw but this one keeps doing the job I need it to do. The rip fence is accurate and easy to adjust, I would want a better quality miter fence the black plastic makes it difficult to see the lines and numbers. This is the saw if you're on a budget.
