Can I order this saw without the stand?? Looks flimsy'
Asked by: Olbill
The stand for this saw is very sturdy and the saw can easily be removed from the stand for storage. This saw/stand combo is a great value for the price.

Can I cut a 4x8 piece of plywood in half (48 inches each piece)?
Asked by: Charlie
To literally answer your question, yes you can. The more important question is: SHOULD YOU USE THIS TO CUT A 4x8 PIECE OF PLYWOOD IN HALF? The answer is a resounding NO, heck NO! To cut a 4x8 piece of plywood it would take three people, one on each end of the plywood and one in the middle to guide the wood. If either one of the side holders get ahead of the other then the blade will jam and kickback this is extremely dangerous and would ruin the wood. You would be better off getting a hand held circular saw and a cutting guide. The cutting guide could be as simple as a 1x3 piece of wood with a couple of C-Clamps. Or Home Depot sells a cutting guide Model # 543056K Internet #205866206 for $51.49. They also have another one comparable to the 1x3 piece of wood, Model # E902 Internet #203175575 Store SKU #17169 for $19.97. The nice thing about the last guide is that it will not wrap from moisture as a piece of wood would. For safety sake you should always keep the weight of the hand held circular saw over the table supporting the wood. If not, when the wood is almost cut the weight of the saw will break the wood and the saw will fall slightly uncontrolled and you don't want to do that with a circular saw. Lastly, if you go to Home Depot and see how they cut a piece of plywood you will see that they use a hand held circular saw mounted in a guide. Granted theirs is mounted vertically where yours would be horizontal.

Hello. I have a question for SKIL. I purchased this model (with the old stand). I have used it minimally for years without any issues. Yesterday, I was cutting a 7 foot 2x4 lengthwise. About 6 feet thru, I must have torqued the wood a bit stopping the blade. The motor never turned on again. It is just hard to believe I ruined the motor this way. This model has no reset button or fuse. I am not getting sufficient answers from the internet or from SKIL customer service. Maybe I need to buy a new table saw. Is it common to break the motor this way?
Asked by: NotsureIwouldpurchase
Yes - you need a 40 tooth carbide or your blade was worn - ripping a 2x4 takes any table saw to the max and needs a jig set up otherwise the board walks & thus generates a lot of heat & thereby binds the blade -

Are there pre-drilled holes in the saw base to allow you to mount it to a table instead of using the folding stand? The stand looks like it uses clips to attach it.
Asked by: Richard
Yes, there is a ≈5/16 hole at each corner for mounting.

Installed a 60 tooth DeWalt blade on saw-cuts with hardly any effort. Sometimes it seems to have a little wobble in the blade, doesn't leave a smooth edge on the wood occasionally. In all fairness I am almost 65 years old, maybe the wobble is in me...but I don't think so. The rip fence is great for a saw in this price range, When you tighten it down -it's tight from one end to the other. I think this is one of the best features of the saw. I've checked others, even more expensive ones and they're not as good as this one. I ripped some 5/8" strips off of an 8' 1X6 today and it did great. The rip fence is not very tall so you might need to build a jig like i did for some cuts. Be sure to register the saw with Skil when you get it home (time limits) and you'll get a five year warranty instead of a three year.warranty. It was shipped through UPS and the box was in rugged shape by the time it got here.

I don't think I could have gotten a better buy for my price range anywhere. It was on time, in excellent shape, and a breeze to assemble and calibrate. It cuts great, and I'm looking forward to trying out the dado feature! This feature was one of the reasons I purchased this particular model! The quality seems great, and I have yet to find a single reason to fault this tablesaw. And where else are you going to get a 3yr warranty? My hat's off to Skil! Well done! Shopping online at Home Depot was a very pleasant and rewarding (surprising lol)! Excellent website, and quick delivery! They'll be getting more of my business in the future, of that you can be sure of!!

The table extensions are nice to have but the motor shaft has way too much play and the wobble of the blade at high speed will likely lead to early failure. The cuts look like old circular rough-sawn lumber. The blade height will not stay put. I had to stop half way thru every cut to raise the blade back up. Rabbets and dados would not be possible with this saw. The "self-aligning fence" must mean that it feels independent enough to align itself anyway it pleases. You have to check the fence for parallel before every cut. I would not recommend the saw.

The only complaint I have is that they advertise and include in the manual that the saw is capable of operating with dado blades. However, Skil doesn't manufacture nor offer an option for the required table insert for dado blades. In the manual, on page 31, they have "always use the Skil Dado Blade Table Insert No. 2610011337".. in bold print. They don't make or sell the insert.

I just installed an oak staircase leading to my basement and needed something to rip the treads and risers better than a circular saw. I am a novice at table saws so I bought this based on some online recommendations. Turns out this was just what I needed to do the job. Factory settings were accurate so I didn't need to adjust. The ripping fence has a ruler on the slide that is also accurate. It took some work to assemble. Again, I am a novice on table saws and the instructions seemed out of order. There was a Styrofoam block beneath the table and it took me a while to figure out that you need to tilt the saw blade to the 45 degree angle to get it out so give yourself an hour. But the saw itself works great. I bought a separate 60-tooth blade to cut the finished oak and made nice clean cuts. I would recommend this to anyone who is a weekend do-it-yourselfer like me.

The throat plate is not level with the rest of the table and not adjustable. The blade height moves when the saw is turned on. A few times the bevel lock would not stay clamped. Used this saw to make kitchen cabinets. The issues mentioned really on an issue making rabbet joints for drawer fronts and bottoms.

The only other issue I have is the adjustable fence. For precision work you will need to make sure that the fence is square with the mitre slots. Overall a very strong and reliable saw
