rebuilt? How so? Electric Motor changing armature/brushes? No, I'd not recommend that, but if you manage to wear this one out I'm sure Skil has a parts list. I wouldn't expect the parts to be around in 10+ years.

How do I change the blade on this skilsaw 5587

use wrench provided, or other wrench that fits onto bolt. Naturally, do this with saw unplugged/unpowered. You need to find a way to manually hold the blade. Recommended method is jamming blade into a piece of soft scrap wood. Don't over tighten on re-install, snug should be fine.

A great basic circular saw.
Everyone should own a circular saw (maybe two!). It's a basic tool for the homeowner, hobbyist, contractor, builder, and others. This particular model Skil Model 5587 circular saw has all the basic features that you would need. See the specs for all the details. It has bevel adjustment (cutting angle), depth adjustment, wrench tool and storage, and a rough-cut blade. I cut some 2x3 for a project, and it worked well. First, I had to attach the provided blade. The saw does not come with a lock button to lock the saw shaft, so I tapped the wrench to knock the Blade Stud loose. Then I attached the blade and tightened the stud. While this saw would make a great starter saw or a second saw, because of its basic features, I would recommend that if you are looking for a heavy-duty saw, or commercial-grade saw, or if you are planning to do lots of major projects, then step up to one of the near top-of-the-line Skil circular saws; it will cost a lot more but will be worth it in the long run for all the added features you get. Whatever you decide, be sure to pickup some extra blades and add a variety (fine-cut, concrete, metal). I also prefer to put my tools in cases. This does not come with a case, and it is hard to find cases for circular saws unless you specifically buy a saw with an included case. I will be purchasing a large tool bag and using that. It will carry my blades and other accessories. This saw is made by Skil - it is well-made and will last a very long time. I look forward to handing this down to my son one day, when he has a place of his own.

This Saw helps DIY'ers create amazing projects!
We have been in need of a circular saw for a long time. It was always our plan to ditch the MDF furniture in our home and spend our weekends building our own! The Skil brand circular saw was a major player in making those dreams come true. The first project we did with it was turn a pile of barn wood into the perfect coffee table. We took three pieces of odd shaped reclaimed barn wood and glued them together. After that, we made a jig to hold the newly made rectangle of wood so that we could cut the 4 sides down to the perfect square sized table. This saw cut through this wood with perfect precision. There were no issue. The blade was fast and did not slip or skip. This was the first time that we used a circular saw and we were able to get the job done right, the first time. The saw is ergonomic, sturdy, fast, and powerful! Please see the picture I posted of the finished coffee table. Thanks to Skil, we got it done!

Who doesn't have one? It's a staple of every home. Some people say if you don't have a kid or a dog then your home isn't complete. Well, if you don't have a Skilsaw same thing. Just make sure you use the correct blade for your job. You should have a few different blades at home so you can change for different jobs. Standard 7-1/4" big time traditional Skilsaw power cut on angles, etc... Must have

Excellent addition to my set of tools!
This tool was instrumental in helping me complete a small wood project. It has some great power for the small jobs I have used it on and has been very reliable! It is of a great design and good build quality from a brand I have really start to like purchasing from. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and they do not mind bugging me to ask to use it for their own projects!

Im using this saw in a panel saw application. Has plenty of power with a sharp blade.

worst saw ever
first saw I ever bought that has no lock button to hold blade shaft while tightening/loosening for blade change. First and last Skil product I'll ever buy.

Terrible Saw
This saw is pretty bad. The blade tends to slip a lot with the slightest bit of resistance. It doesn't have much torque to work with either. The blade guide doesn't move out of the way easily & the handle to adjust the table depth gets in the way of the guage to measure it. Don't waste your money on this saw
