Hi Jake, glad to help answer your question. I would try flipping the belt around & try it that way. Some sanding belts are directional in design. I hope this helped.

good little workhorse of a sander
A good little mill! Helped us sand our deck in prep for new paint this year. Worked excellent. Easy to Load. The dust collector is so so, but in general we have been very happy with it. So far, i can happily say we would buy it over again and that's the most important bit of feedback I can give..,,No regret :-)

I have a desk that i purchsed in the 70's; love it, but the finish gave up over the last 10 years. I've never refinished furniture; but took this on as a weekend project. Using 100 grit to remove the finish; then using 240 grit to finish the wood, then 300 grit for a final hand sanding, I was ready to stain and urethane. Desk looks better than new; even found the drawer pulls were solid brass; so buffed those with my electric drill and jewelers rouge. - wow ! I'd never used a power sander; but this made the prep work so very easy. Prepared the desk for staining in an afternoon and the seven drawers also in half a day. Easy to use; easy to change belts; filter catches most of the dust. Variable speed and LED pressure indicator to assist in careful processing of your job.

Purchased this to take some door and window casings down to bare wood (1920's home). Didn't want to buy something more expensive, as everything seemed to have a mix of negative reviews and I don't anticipate a high volume of belt sanding to come my way. I can't speak for longevity, as I only have about 20 hours logged with this. What I can say is that it does the job well. The dust collection piece falls off regularly. The belt tracks well. I did two belt swaps during the project, very easy. The right side of the tool can get up to edges, but the left side is limited - so I had to hold it 'backwards' at times during the job. I'm completely satisfied with this for my purposes and will be pleasantly surprised if it holds up over time.

I only sanded a square foot area of my floor and this thing blew me away. Comes with a roll of sandpaper. Amazing feel, it is nice and hefty. Heavy actually. Doesn't feel flimsy and does an amazing job sanding. I was so Impressed it's 2:44am and I needed to write this review lol. First time home owner/Sander owner. I am getting my tools to build a fence and other misc things and this a great addition to my Skil 20 Combo Kit. It came with a reciprocating saw, circular saw, a nice powerful LED light, a drill, two 2 Amp hour batteries AND a charger. This was a GREAT addition to that. Skil has been stepping it's game up with the new branding aimed at DIYers and home owners, I am in love with all of the products from them and this is no exception to the quality I have got from the other Skil products I have. Oh and no, I wasn't paid for this lol.

This is a great 18" belt sander for the DIYer and the pressure monitor is a great feature to help prevent scouring. The sander comes fully assembled and is a whiz to use. The trigger activates it and another button can lock the power on to ease the wear on your hand. It is light and easy to use. You let the sander do the work. I found the pressure indicator to be spot on, it turns red when you are applying too much pressure. Most dust stays on the wood and some entered the canister, mostly fine remnants. This sander is great for small vertical and horizontal projects. If you need a belt sander for large projects such as a floor, I would get a larger and more 'professional' one. The sander comes with one 80-grit sand paper roll already attached.

Great Belt Sander & Pressure Control Is Awesome!
Bought this Sander for some home projects that needed doing. This is one very STOUT tool! It performs well & the added Pressure Control is nothing short of Awesome! The Sander came with a nice filter which was easily cleaned after the sanding was done. Another plus is that it isn't heavy or cumbersome to use. I would suggest to always wear Eye Protection as well as Hearing protection. The tool kept me from gouging my work & removed quite a bit of material with the 80 grit belt. The 120 & 240 grits really smoothed it out nicely. I did purchase a belt Cleaning Stick & it maintained the belt very well. I would suggest buying one too!
