On long driving trips I like having a means to pump up my tires; for many years I had a battery-powered unit that served me well but the battery eventually died. Moving to this new unit, I wanted to improve on some of the shortcommings of my original unit. One was battery capacity, as the older unit could hold charge only good enough for one session of topping off four tires. This new unit has plenty of capacity: pumping up one very low tire fully used less than 5% of charge. A bonus is that this unit has a bright LED display that shows charge and battery voltage in real time. This is also a nice feature, as my older unit only had "Good" and "Low" LEDs, which were difficult to interpret. Another is the pressure gauge: the new unit has one that is easy to read and accurate enough for pumping up car tires. I also like the lighted gauge. The old unit had a scale that was too difficult to read for the range of pressures for car tires (the scale was too wide so intermediate values were difficult to read). The old unit's gauge was pretty useless so I had to use a separate pressure gauge which forced me to switch back and forth, greatly increasing time to pump the tire. With this unit I was able to leave it attached and running, and needed to stop it only once when the tire was fully inflated. The unit also has means to power 12VDC and 120VAC devices. I wanted to try it remotely with a power tool (for working in a crawlspace, but the power rating of 300W was not sufficient for my tool. This outlet would be better suited for plugging in various electronics on a long drive, etc. There is also jumper cables included with this unit, and it specifies an ability to provide up to 1000A. I did not attempt to try this on my car, as I have not had the need. However, I feel far better using this unit to jump a car battery as the battery is of large capacity and is a lead acid type. I am skeptical of the Li-ion powerbanks and their ability to jump a car; therefore, I would definitely rely on this unit in the case of an emergency. Overall, a very good unit. Note it is heavy but that's what you are going to have with such a large battery. Only complaint is that the charger did not have a compartment for storage, which I had on my old unit. This would have been a nice touch but a minor complaint.

This is a review of SMARTECH's Portable Power Station Model JSL-1250. Let's cut to the chase. Five factors resulted in my poor rating and my "do not buy" recommendation: [1] it's a lead-acid battery and not lithium; [2] the jumper cables should be of heavier gauge so that they could be longer; [3] the air compressor is mickey mouse; [4] it's complicated to operate its [too] many features; and [5] the AC power in not pure sine wave. I also have a concern with why the manufacturer found it necessary to include spare fuses. Did I mention that the built-in LED "flashlight" was defective out-of-the-box? It did not work in the "low" position.

This is a pretty versatile little unit. I have a similar unit I got specifically to power my GPS guided telescope when I don’t have A/C available for it. (the drive unit and dew shield both run off 12V power) This will do everything the Celestron will and a good deal more like jump start a car or air up a tire. This also has a built in inverter which could be very handy for powering things like the laptop I use for astrophotography. I can tell by all these things and the additional heft it has that I can expect more than I can from the power tank. About the only thing better on the powertank is the spot light. The light one this one is bright but not like the spotlight on the Celestron. But that light on the Celestron drains the battery fast too. But to be honest the last thing you want on when you are viewing the sky is a really bright spot light. Both units do their job well. This one just does more jobs. So price wise this compares very favorably with the power tank while giving you more for the money by taking on more tasks. So if you want something for emergencies to jump off a car or air up a tire or just want a portable way to power your electronics this thing has all those bases covered. It’s a pretty neat device.

Very powerful and versatile, reasonably lightweight (19 lbs), power station. After receiving this power station/air compressor, I charged it overnight, with included charger, before use. The manual states 10 hours for recharge with automatic overcharge protection when using wall outlet A/C power. It does not have this protection when recharging from DC so you have to monitor it. I then used the air compressor function to check the tire pressures in both our cars and bikes. Air hose easily clamps onto the tire stems and pressure gauge accurately reads pressure in tires, up to 150 psi. Air flow was reasonably quick. With current hurricane season in Florida it's nice to know I have reasonably long emergency backup power for our radio and phones with AC, DC, and USB outlets provided, (many days with intermittent use). I tried the battery clamps on our Subaru Outback and they fit properly. I have not as yet needed to jump start our car but the 950 amps supplied is greatly in excess of the cars 550 amp battery so it should easily do the job. Manual states it will do multiple restarts (approx 20), without the need for recharging the battery. Has battery status indicator to let you know when the unit needs recharging . Battery cable clamps are clearly color labeled and unit warns you if you have them connected incorrectly. This is a very functional, well designed and constructed unit to have for both maintenance and emergencies.

The Smartech JSL-1250 Power Station with Jump Starter and Air Compressor Model # JSL-1250 is a Multi-functional Internal Battery Operated Portable Power Station. It has a powerful jump starter with 1250 Amps of starting power, and a 150 psi compressor. Those two features make this Power Station ideal to have for those unexpected mornings when your battery is too weak to start your car or a slow leaking tire that needs attention. It’s small enough to travel anywhere assuring you never get stuck on the road. Other features I like are the 2 AC and 2 DC power outlets. I can plug in lights during a power outage or any 120-Volt / 12-Volt home appliance. The 2 USB ports are an added bonus. This Product has a 1-year limited warranty.

This portable power station from SMARTECH Products appears to be heavy duty, well-made and exactly what I have been looking for in case of a vehicle breakdown or a power outage. The device comes with a long list of features: vehicle jump starting, built in flashlight, USB power output, power source for all 12 volt DC devices, air compressor, and the inverter supplies power to 120 volt devices with limited wattage for up to 37 minutes for a 200 watt device. Read the well-written operator's manual carefully for all the details regarding the unit's capabilities and limitations. The JSL-950's net weight is 18.81 pounds so we find it can be easily switched between vehicles as needed. See attached photographs. Well-done SMARTECH!

          Great Paper Weight!
Used it twice and now it won't hold a charge. Changed the fuses, got a new charger, thing is crap. Even when it did work, it barely did; took 20 minutes to top off a tire with 5 psi, then had to wait another 20 minutes for it to cool down before inflating the next tire.

            Will not hold a charge
This unit is about 1 year old, and now when plugged in to charge it says many times that it is fully charged, yet once unplugged the indicator goes from 95 percent to 65 percent to zero in a matter of seconds. Less than a minute usually. It worked once or twice and was properly stored ( not drained and frozen) Etcetera. This unit cast approximately $140.00 and is not returnable as it is past the 90 days. Please consider a different product so not to throw out $ 120.00- $ 140.00 as I did.
