Questions & Answers

Does code also require anti-short bushings in addition to the integral plastic collar?

Does code also require anti-short bushings in addition to the integral plastic collar?
Asked by: mattman1961
If you look carefully at the integral plastic collar, you will see that it does not protect the wire that is exposed to your cut in the MC cable; it simply keeps the wire from shorting to the Snap-2-It. The anti-short bushing is a must if you want to keep the metallic burrs on the cladding cut from interacting with the wire inside; it doesn't add much time to push them on, just make sure they are nice and snug before you slide on the Snap-2-It.

How do I uncouple an installed connector?

I want to replace the light fixture to which a cable is connected. How do I get the connector out of the old fixture and off the flex electric cable?
Asked by: Ronald
The ring that holds the connector to the box is split. Shut off the power feeding the box! Find the split and pry it apart with a thin flat screwdriver. If you are lucky you will see the split easily, if not you will have to use the screwdriver and a small hammer to spin the ring until you can see the split. Once out of the box the connector will spin right off of the MC.
