The mower does not go in reverse. You can pull it backwards, but doing so is difficult. In tight spots, I just turn it around in place. It can be turned in place fairly easily.

My initial thought after all the good reviews was, holy cow, that's way out of my budget. I thought more about it and realized it was worth it for an American made product. I also thought, I can try it and return it if it's not worth the money so..... I LOVE IT! I wanted a battery mower for the property in the woods so I didn't have to fight with gas, plugs, etc. My concern was the exceptionally uneven ground, host of coverings and north woods trappings. After the removal of the sticks, twigs and such, it was time to get to cutting. I was able to work the unit and maneuver rather easily and it was phenomenal. I went at the highest height for the first quick pass, then 3" for a medium pass and 1" in the front where it was a little more level and "grass". I thought I would have to have both batteries and it took only one! (I'd say closer to an hour than 45 minutes) I then played a little more with some of the leaves WOO HOO more happiness!! The rapid charger has a comfortable hum letting you know it's working but not loud at all. It stores beautifully in the old tiny 5th wheel used for storage. It was a little heavy to get up (i have two wonky shoulders) but managed by "walking it up" the steps! The only cons I had were my own impatience and lack of sense moments: 1) where's the mulch plug, everything else is here..... duh it was inside the unit already 2) how the heck do I engage the blade? i pushed the button and pulled the levers...errrghh I called the customer service and they were closed - double errgh. let me look at the manual.... BIG DUH and smacking self upside the head..... after sighing at my ignorance and saying a quick - thank goodness i never got to speak to someone in service..... I pushed the button and HELD IT while engaging the proper lever <eye roll> It's only been used once and I look forward to using it for the whole season! The ability to store upright is exceptionally helpful as I'm very limited on space!!

After using my old $150 Craftsman gas mower for nearly 20 years it was time to upgrade. My old mower was short on features but fired up every time even after being left outside over winters and rarely being maintained properly. I was very excited to get this Snapper battery mower and had HIGH expectations. After all, Snapper is the name amongst names when it comes to mowers. I paid a premium ($550+) and my reaction to this mower is tepid. The construction is sturdy enough but not overly beefy. This keeps the weight down, which isn’t bad. The power is extremely subpar! My gas mower would actually suck up the blades and allow them to be cut evenly. This mower does not do that. The result is a mowed lawn that leaves areas of uncut grass, especially in the wheel tracks. I routinely need to cut one direction and then need to cross back perpendicularly to get a total cut. The battery life is good and they recharge quickly enough that by the time one runs out the other is fully recharged. I did have one battery completely die and am waiting on a replacement from Briggs and Stratton but that process and the service was a pleasure. One last thing I’ll mention is the blade. It has unique mounting grooves so it can ONLY be replaced by OEM and there’s no different options. I’d love a high-lift blade and really feel that may help with the lack of power. Alas, no. Overall, I’d have a hard time recommending this mower based on the cost. If you are deadset on getting away from gas like I was then this may be the best you’re going to get. I considered trying the Ego line but they seem flimsier than the Snapper.

Fantastic mower!
Customer review from snapper.com logo
Bought this in April 2019, waited a few months to really use it in all different conditions and let me say this mower is awesome. Bagging is excellent, mulching is very good, not quite what our old gas mower that up and died was, but darn close. I have cut at height 2 and 3 primarily. Battery (2Ah) lasts about 40 minutes when bagging, a little less when mulching. I had a stinger one weekend in my dominant shoulder, so could only use 1 arm, and I had no issue mulching that time. It is very light, very quiet and yet extremely powerful. I do clean the underneath and blow out all areas with my small compressor to keep the motor intake clean. So far so good. I am going to get the cordless string trimmer next, as my old corded one jams the line up all time. Check out the videos if you have not seen this mower in action (no dealer around me-NE Wisconsin-even knew Snapper made a cordless mower). Snapper/Briggs and Stratton should really get their dealers up to speed, and make them in America (Milwaukee!). I would definitely be a solid advocate for cordless mowers. My neighbors look at me funny when I mow because it is so quiet and easy to use. I will never go back to a gas model. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This an excellent lawn mower. I bought it 3 weeks ago and already used it twice. I really like to fact that it came with two batteries. Batteries charge within 30 mins and they last approximately 45 mins while the mower is running. The charger (or perhaps the battery or both) has a fan so while the battery is being charged, there is a fan noise (somewhat loud). I am able to mow my front and backyard with one battery (it takes about 45 mins). The mower is light and easy to push (I seldomly use the self propelled feature although it is nice to have). The mower is quiet compared with my old gas mower and it starts and stops effortlessly. It stores easily upright w/handle folded. When I took it out of the box, one of the handle holder knobs was missing, so I called Snapper and they shipped a new knob which I received within a week. Overall, I am very happy with this mower and I am considering purchasing the 82V Snapper trimmer as well.

Comes already assembled, just charge both batteries which is quite fast. On high self propel the thing takes off like a rocket, the reason I wanted self propelled I have a small incline towards the back of my property this thing has no problems tackling it!

I just purchased this mower and have not used it. It seems well made how ever what struck me right away while unpacking is the engagement cables are not incased. Its not a big deal but for the price and the ormal quality of snapper products its surprising. I well update more as I start to use the mower.

Super powerful and very quiet. High speed is a fast jog pace. Batteries charge very quickly and last long enough to cut the average size yard no problem. Mine came with two batteries so I can get two weeks between charges. Highly recommended.

(What's this)
The first time I went to use this Snapper self propelled mower in my front yard my wife was standing out there on the sidewalk watching me starting it up and I kept popping wheelies across the yard. Needless to say my wife found this quite entertaining. This is one very, very powerful mower. The fact that it has a 82 volt battery is crazy to think of. There is a slight learning curve to find the right speed that works best for you along with figuring out which handle you have to pull to get the mower moving in the right direction. I'm used to our old gas mower which took a couple seconds to respond to any speed increase. You have none of that this battery powered electric mower (think of it like the Tesla of lawn mowers) it has instant power. Within a couple minutes I had my speed set correctly and I had figured out how to engage the handles that allow the mower to be self propelled and away I went. One other thing that took a minute was I'm used to pushing down on my old mowers handle to lift the front wheels off the ground and pull it back to re-position it when changing direction. On this mower the rear wheels drive the mower so when I do this if your speed is set to high it will cause you to pop wheelies like I was doing in the beginning. Other then the slight learning curve this mower is amazing. I love the fact that I will never have to change the oil, spark plug, air filter or anything except sharpen the blade from now on for maintenance. These battery powered mowers are definitely the wave of the future. This thing is so quiet that I could probably mow the lawn at midnight and not upset the neighbors. This mower is very comfortable to push once you get used to it. It has a very nice 1" handle with built in rubber padding which makes it very comfortable to push around the yard. The push button start is pretty cool. I think everyone is so used to putting their foot on the body of the mower and yanking the cord hoping it's going to start that having a push button start takes some getting used to. Not having to yank your shoulder out of its socket to mow the lawn is quite the novel idea ;o) Adjusting the height of the mower is the easiest I have ever seen. All you have to do is adjust one lever to raise or lower the whole mowers to (7) different heights. This is great if you live in an area where you cut it taller in summer and shorter in winter. I didn't even have to get a measuring tape out to measure the distance up inside the mower down to the grass to figure out which numbered setting to set it on. If you look in the owners manual it tells you what height it will cut at vs. the number you set it at. I have ours on #4 and it was perfect for my Spring cutting height. On my old mower you had to adjust all (4) wheels and it was always kind of a pain. Heaven forbid you get one wheel lower then the others and you cut the grass all crooked until you figure it out (been there done that ;o) My front lawn is a manicured lawn so I don't have sticks, weeds or anything else to cut but grass. This mower cut the grass perfectly and left nothing on the lawn with the bag attached to the back of it. The bag on the this mower is a 2.1 cubic feet bag and it was plenty big to mow a large portion of my lawn without having to empty it every pass. This mower came with (2) 82 volt max lithium 2Ah batteries and the 30 minute rapid charger. This charger has a fan in it that helps keep everything cool when it is doing the rapid recharge. My lawn is not big enough to need both batteries to mow it but it's nice knowing it's there if need be. I look forward to getting some of the other Snapper tools and having the spare battery to use in them. I really want their leaf blower. It looks pretty cool and with an 82 volt battery I'm sure it is crazy powerful. I haven't done it yet but I like the idea of being able to store this lawnmower in our garage or our shed in the vertical position so that it takes up less square footage. Try doing that with your old gas mower and let me know how that works out for you ;o) This mower comes with a 5 year limited warranty on the mower and a 2 year limited warranty on the batteries. If you are looking for a fantastic battery powered lawn mower this is the best of the best. I don't think you will find a better battery powered mower on the market. Here is a little more information directly from the manufacturers website in case I missed anything: 21 heavy-duty steel 3-in-1 mowing deck Brushless motor technology Smart, efficient load sensing technology Compact vertical storage capability Up to 45-minute run time with 2Ah battery Self-propelled model Push button starting Single-lever, 7-height-of-cut adjustment Comfortable, ergonomic rubber handle and touchpoints 1 in. Dia heavy-duty handle bar Large 1.6-bushel bagger

(What's this)
Wow. Thanks to Snapper, I am a new convert to battery powered mowers like this one. I am old-school big gas engines kind of guy. Batteries are for flashlights. And so this arrives - charge the batteries and cut the grass. I cut the back and my son cut the front yard. It handled thick grass, piles of dried leaves and small sticks with relative ease. I am impressed. The cut was clean and even. I am very happy with the results. It was generally easy to drive. There is a pause when you disengage the drive to back it up. I found a slight push forward disengaged the drive and thus allowed it to pull back. Once I got used to this quirk, it was fine, not a deal breaker. The drive speeds are great. Slow to a regular walk. Any faster and I wouldn't trust it to cut well. It is relatively easy to handle, my son can use this on our hill. He said it was the easiest mower he's used. He's only 105 pounds so this is a testament to good design. I really like the one handle cutting height adjustment. My son could move it. On prior mowers II had to set each wheel and it took a bit of strength to move the wheels, particularly if the mower was sitting on the ground versus on it's side so the wheels were not carrying the weight of the mower. This Snapper is very easy to move the cutting height adjustment. The bagger is great. Easy to hang, standard to empty -- hold upside down and shake till everything comes out. Just like every mower I have owned. Mower did not leave any clippings on the grass during the cut while using the bagger. Battery time is about 40 minutes each. Recharge is about an hour. I was able to cut my whole yard (1/4 acre) with about 1.25 batteries. I'd probably get the 4ah batteries if I had a larger space to cut (it comes with 2ah hour batteries). Keep in mind this is spring grass which in our area is the thickest of the season. In the mid to late summer the grass is much easier to cut and much faster. Charging batteries is easy. I mounted the charger on the side of one of my workbenches (see pic) and slide them in to charge. A small fan runs when it is actively charging. Once it reaches full charge, about an hour from a drained battery, it turns off the charging cycle. While I would not like to leave the battery in the charger overnight, I am certain that would not be an issue. I have had many gas mowers over the years. Some good, some bad. All needed maintenance to change the oil, empty the gas, change the air filter and spark plug on a annual/semi annual schedule. This has none of that. I will sharpen the blade but other than brushing it off, there is not much else to do. That's a huge plus. And since it is electric, I can store it indoors during the winter. (My wife would not be pleased if I brought in a stinky gas engine during the winter). Overall I am very pleased with this mower. Easy to use, minimal maintenance and good cutting results. And the final bonus, the very low sound made while running. We all hear the sound of gas mowers from across the neighborhood. This is very quiet by comparison (see video). I can cut my grass very early without worrying about disturbing my nearby neighbors. That's a huge plus on a busy weekend.

Only used once so far, is a backup mower. I spent a lot of time researching e-mowers and would have never have found this jem on my own. I had a gen 1 e-mower previously and returned it because it was no comparison to my gas mower.
