My problem in the South isn't snow on the roof, but pileups of wet, soggy leaves which can lead to the rotting of the covered shingles. I needed a solution for clearing these leaves and other trash, since maintaining my balance on my home's steep roof is a problem. I purchased my Snow Joe in April 2018. My son tested it from ground level (see attached photo). His height of 6'4", plus the Snow Joe's 21' extendable pole, enabled him to reach the trouble spots. My wife tested it from a tall stepladder. Again, the Snow Joe's long telescoping pole enabled her to reach most of the leaf piles and other blowdowns. Thus, our Snow Joe enables us to keep our roof clear of leaves and other storm detritus ourselves year-round.

With the recent volume of snow in our area, the telescoping snow shovel became very helpful to keep my house from receiving any damage from the weather conditions. Whether dealing with the snow depth on the roof or the amount of snow overhang on the roofs edges , the versatility of the shovel the removal work was completed both efficiently and safely.

Pretty good
My primary reason for getting this roof rake was to clear off all the leaves that pile up on my roof and not so much for clearing away snow. Assembly: The "supplied tools" are miniature wrenches that are a little difficult to handle so you might be inclined to use your own instead, like I did. There are only four pieces to put together with three screws which is easily done in just a few minutes. Rake Head: The metal rake head rests on the roof surface as you pull it down scraping the shingle's delicate coating. I would like to see some tiny wheels located on the blade's edges that would allow it to smoothly roll along instead. That would lift the blade just off the surface, protecting the roof, plus make it easier to pull. Telescoping Pole: Its maximum length is almost 21 feet, however at its longer reach it becomes rather unstable to handle as the pole bows and it starts to sway, plus the head feels heavier. At shorter lengths, the poles slide into one another making for a more sturdy tool. Performance: It is effective at raking off leaves and does so rather quickly. The telescoping design does work well at adding length and locking it in place. Just be aware that handling the pole is easier at shorter lengths than when it is longer. Overall, the Snow Joe Roof Rake beats any other way of clearing off your roof, so I would recommend it.

Compare in hand, not online !
Well, I was not real impressed with the put together factor, seemed a bit cheap and timely. I could not use a camera while we had a couple snow storms but I did have my boy mimic the cleaning of the area I have to keep clear of snow, I took the gutter down due to water leaking in the past two years. Pictures show how heavy and awkward this rake is. The first thin section of pole has forming flaws from factory (picture). Shovel s rake does not set flush with surface and because of the formation at the factory, there is not much you can do with that. The two outside edges will scuff the surface and the center will be 3/8” of an inch off roof. MY Prediction is that this will kink in the first pole section and be rendered useless, positive fact here is that I used this twice and no problems other than the weight when extended. I would not recommend due to the price and awkwardness, if they factory where to take ten feet off of the length and angle the rake blade differently and make it scrape flat, this would be handy with a very high rating. I just stay home and take care of things, I didn’t go to school for engineering. 2 stars.

Almost a great product
We live in Wisconsin, so having a roof rake for really bad snow storms makes perfect sense. However, this particular product isn't quite there. The biggest problem is that the manufacturer couldn't drill the holes properly for this rake (see the pictures). Essentially the supports that would give the rake all of its strength cannot be mounted because the holes are in the wrong place. The funny thing is it doesn't seem to be a mistake for just this one tool because the holes are identically spaced on each side and symmetrical. I give it 2 stars because other than the huge mistake by the manufacturer, I could see how this would be a great product, I just don't feel I should have to drill holes into something I picked up from the store that is brand new...

This is great
I don't get much snow, but I sure have a lot of leaves. I have tried a push broom to remove them, but a push broom has to short of a handle to reach so it doesn't get the whole roof. (It also takes more effort to pull the push broom with it's load of leaves.) A ladder to be able to see the roof, and telescope the handle to what length you need. Put the blade down and draw it towards you and the leaves, branches, etc. come with it. Extend and repeat until the roof is cleared. With corrugated roofing, you are not going to be able to get in the ridges; but it cleared the bulk of the leaves and branches off. It didn't work well on the acorns on my composite roofing; each tile made the blade jump just enough to bounce over the acorns. I put a tarp down to catch the leaves and keep them from the flower beds making the clean-up easier and less messy.

A great alternative to climbing.
It hasn't snowed here so far, but I used the shovel to get moss off of the roof over my doorway. I also have alot of leaves on the roof over the yard and this shovel offered a great solution, so I don't have to climb a ladder. It is 21 ft. long and still light enough to lift easily and maneuver. I also have a steep driveway, which is difficult to walk down when it snows. This shovel will reach the bottom when I'm standing on top. It will be very useful all year around.

It's OK, but should come with blade guard
Fully extended it bows a lot, to the point where it feels like the aluminum pole is going to bend and kink. To avoid this you have to hold the pole towards the middle and shimmy it upwards until the scraper is on the roof before you hold it at the handle end. The good news is that it does indeed extend to about 21 feet! I feel that the scraper angle is not enough because you need to stand far away from the home in order to apply the scraper at the right angle on the roof (especially if the house is 2+ stories) For me this is an issue because our back deck is in the way and is too close to the house and from the ground you cannot reach the roof. If it had more of an angle this would be less of an issue. Problem: The scraper brace is supposed to be attached with one screw and nut to the pole and two screws to the scraper. The two screws to the scraper do not screw (in to) the scraper because the holes are larger and it does not come with nuts for those two screws! (I double checked the instructions and no it does not come with the nuts). So basically, find your own machine screw nuts or don't use the brace. The scraper blade is sharp! As another reviewer mentioned this will eventually destroy asphalt shingles since you will scrape off the asphalt with the sharp edge over time. It should come with a removable rubber or plastic guard so people can choose whether or not they want it based on their own needs. Overall, it's OK for the price.

I'm ready! No more winters nights on a ladder cleaning snow!
I hate ice dams and lately we have had a few of them. Not sure why I clean my gutters several times be snow hits, Insulation is good and I installed heavy duty commercial sixe gutters to carry a larger load. Haven't had an Ice dam in the last first ten years, Until last winter it seamed every week one developing. My soft water rock salt did the trick to melt it. Heavy snow and ice dams do cause havoc on your house I'm not letting Mother Nature ruin my new roof. Works well.
Happy with my purchase. Improvement may be needed for the bolts that hold it together, lost one in my first month of use, suggest buying longer better bolts and using locking nuts or lock tite for securing. The plastic freezes during use resulting in the need to bring it inside and thaw it out to adjust length intermittently. These are manageable issues. Would still recommend buying it. Used it weekly in Canada for the snow on metal and shingled roof with great success.
