This would probably be to big. You may want to get a nursery planter for what you want to do. This is a very nice and sturdy hanging planter that has a lip on the bottom for self-watering.
Around 15-20lb depends on how heavy the plant is.
Although I did not measure, I also planted Boston Ferns and had no problems at all with depth. My plant sizes were moved from the 2qt nursery pots into these. I hope that helps.
We can be sure depending on where you live but most likely is is not enough watering.
You need a plant hanging bracket or just pound a big nail into the place you are going to hang it. Remember you must hanging enough away from walls or bushes so it doesn't touch anything. It is best hung from a patio structure I used a screw hook.

Ours is not under cover so the rain obviously waters from the top all the time. We also water from the top. We really don't use that hole in the side of the pot
