Questions & Answers

can this handle a 60 amp circuit on a 220v?

upgrading air handler and electrical wiring between breaker panel
Asked by: daedae
SOOW cannot be used in this application. 6 AWG is the correct wire size. This advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

Can i use this for 50 amp survive?

Asked by: Bill
Yes - if used for a 120V circuit (2 current carrying conductors), this product is rated for 55 Amps. If your load is drawing 50 Amps, a 100' cord will have a voltage drop of 3.7% (4.4 Volts) which is above the recommended amount of 3%. You can check the voltage drop using the voltage drop calculator available at: http://www.southwire.com/support/voltage-drop-calculator.htm.
