For use in wet or dry locations, this Southwire 1,000 ft. Black 1-Gauge USE Wire is designed for use as underground service entrance cable. Compatible in direct burial applications from the transformer to the meter base. The voltage rating for this cable is 600-Volt maximum.

Q:When I clicked on the specification, the Southwire list for the 1 awg AL said it would be 18 strands. When I received the spool, it only had 8 number of strands. Does Southwire make a 18 stranded 1 awg Aluminum Alloy of 8000 or 1350 series cable?

    A:  No, when used as Type USE-2, conductors are suitable for use as underground service entrance conductors for direct burial at conductor temperatures not to exceed 90°C. When used as RHW-2 or USE-2, conductor temperatures shall not exceed 90°C in wet or dry locations. Voltage rating for RHW-2 or RHH or USE-2 conductors is 600 volts.

      A:  When you feed a secondary panel, you have to run 4 wires to it per NEC code. And the ground at the secondary panel has to be isolated from the neutral, so for many panels, you may have to buy a ground bar kit.
