Will 2-2-2 be alright for 100 amp sub panel, ran 150ft.

Answer

Answer: You can use the Voltage Drop Calculator at http://www.southwire.com/support/voltage-drop-calculator.htm to check this. Using the following inputs (single phase, aluminum conductor, installation in conduit (cable), 120 Volts, 3% max voltage drop, 150’ length, 40 Amps), a 2 AWG conductor will have a voltage drop of 2.94% - it will be OK for the installation. If you change the current requirement to 50 Amps, the calculator result is a 1/0 AWG with a voltage drop of 2.61%. Thus you need to upsize to a 1/0 AWG or larger conductor. Keep in mind that SEU and SER cable can only be used above ground (even if in conduit) and the bare neutral will have to be used as the equipment grounding conductor when running to a subpanel. Hiring a licensed electrician for installation of a subpanel is recommended.

AMP RATING AT 300 FT? DIRECT BURIAL OKAY?

Asked by WOODY January 1, 2015
1
Answer

The amp rating for this product ranges from 75 to 100 based on the temp at Cel. Degrees. It is used for powering the service drop to the meter base and the meter base to the distribution panel board. The ground wire in SEU surrounds the other conductors. It is held in place with reinforcement tape and covered with a sunlight and weather resistant jacket. This wire is NOT rated for direct burial. You can visit Southwire.com and select product catalog where you will find spec sheets on all products.

Answer

You could use SEU or SER. I have attached a copy of the aluminum SEU/SER spec sheet for your review.
