I was looking for an extension cord that was specifically "outdoor" rated because where I live, I lose power frequently due to winter snow blizzards, wind storms throughout the year, and was tired of losing the food in my refrigerator. Not only is this Southwire extension cord outdoor rated, but the length totals 75-feet, which is long enough for me to run it from the refrigerator, throughout the kitchen, and reaching the gas generator in the middle of the yard. Since I need to use this cord in adverse conditions, I am relieved that the cord jacket resists moisture and water. The red/white/blue color scheme makes it easy to spot when walking in the yard. One cool feature is the fact that the end lights up when the cord is "live" with power. The cord end is a 3-prong and the cord is rated up to 15 amps. (Tip: check the length of extension cord you need and match that to the gauge so as to not overload the cord). The 12-gauge wire gives me peace of mind, knowing I won't overload this extension cord. Not only will I be using it to power the fridge during power loss, but also my miter saw, via the generator, since I don't have access to AC power nearby. This is a very heavy duty and rugged extension for residential or commercial use. It's 12/3 gauge wire size and the 15 amp rating carries also the 5-15 NEMA ( three prong male and female ends, with the female end being lighted to let you know power is available. The power cord is rated STJW which means it was designed for hard service, thermoplastic coating rated for small appliances and equipment rated at less than 300 volts and for outdoor use and the red, white and blue outside coating is reminiscent of our nations colors. Heavy-heavy duty extension cord. I call it heavy-heavy because of it’s weight. No real surprise for any 12/3 cord. It works great. It works just like any other extension cord. The female end has a light inside the housing. Nice for when you need it at night. Here’s something I need to mention. Call it a pet peeve. When I buy an extension cord, the first thing I do is stretch it out and try to get out the bends and memory twists that happened during packaging. When I opened this cord, I laid it out on my deck and let it heat up in the sun a couple hours. I Then rolled it up. It was trainable and looped great. Refreshing surprise.

The 12 gauge copper wires can supply 15 amperes, ample for powering the lawn mower, leaf blower, grinder, and saws. Red, white, and blue colors are clearly visible on the lawn, helpful when mowing. A light in the female plug shows that power is on, useful to help locate a current interruption if a tool stops working unexpectedly. Cord is usable to -20°C or -4°F but becomes less flexible at lower end of temperature range. Southwire offers other cords rated for lower temperatures, better choices for cold weather use. No question this is a heavy duty outdoor cord. 12/3 wire for heavy use age issues. Weather proof etc. I love the made in America along with the red white and blue colors. Has a power light end so you know you have power coming thru your cord. Very manageable, rolls up easily. I have had great success with South Wire products and expect no less from this item. No question I'll recommend this.
