Questions & Answers

Is all the wires coated

Asked by: kkf44
As shown in the picture, the three current carrying wires are each covered in separate (pretty heavy duty) insulation. As usual, the ground wire is bare.

I am looking for the correct cable to run from 30 amp breaker in my fuse panel, to reliance 30 amp inlet box? the cable will be ran out the house and under my deck. the inlet box will be mounted to the side of my deck. any help or other suggestions will be helpful. thanks

Best to check your generator manual as this depends on the rating of the generator, how long of a wire do you need and if you want to use aluminum or copper wire. You probably need #10 3 conductor plus ground.

If you are installing a 100 amp sub panel close to your main panel box this is a good wire to use. No question as to meeting NEC codes. Easier to work with than the bulkier aluminum SER that would be required. This wire is hard to find locally or even online for short runs. Glad to see that HD sells it by the foot. Although the copper is significantly costlier than aluminum, I opted to go with it for the short run for its current carrying capacity. I had to order because it was not available in store but I got free shipping by meeting the minimum purchase requirement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Piece of SER Wire for Hooking Up Sub Panel I purchased this product sight-unseen from the internet. It was not available at my local Home Depot store. I needed a piece of cable to run from my existing Square D load center to my newly mounted Square D sub panel. I was installing a 100 amp sub panel so this product was just what I was looking for. I prefer the copper wire due to its higher electrical conductivity. Understandably this wire is fairly stiff and makes bending it a little difficult but not impossible. I would say the wire is about 3/4" thick. Overall it is a great product. It was cut and shipped to my house within about 2 days and I received it about 6 days after making my online purchase.

Glad to find this available as a custom cut length, but would have been more convenient to find the cable in the store. (Even though this would seem to be a popular size for 100 amp service, it's not carried in either of the "big box" stores. ) Item did arrive for free store pick up in a couple of days.
