this kills weeds AND GRASS. SO IT WILL KILL ST AUGUSTINE GRASS
If you find this question puzzling, see http://www.randylemmon.com/lawns/gardenline-surfactants.html . I live in an area with hard water (but not hard enough to damage appliances) and some of the weeds have a waxy coating on their leaf surfaces. The dish-detergent approach seems to help with the wetting of the leaves of the weeds with waxy surfaces. Since water softeners replace mineral ions in the water (e.g., calcium and magnesium) with sodium ions, and sodium is not great for those of us with high blood pressure, and because my water isn't hard enough to damage appliances or plumbing, I don't have a water softener. I may try distilled water, which is soft, but that adds a buck a gallon or so to the cost of the weed killer.
That all depends on how strong you are using it. For average useage I would say one gallon covered about about 800 sq ft but mainly I just hit the weeds that were showing.
I would not spray this product close to (to within a foot) flower beds and other plantings you want to keep intact. I don't know the proximity that is safe. I use it to keep weeds away in gravel driveways and parking areas and walkways. It works well.
