I live in an area with hard water (but not hard enough to damage appliances) and some of the weeds have a waxy coating on their leaf surfaces. The dish-detergent approach seems to help with the wetting of the leaves of the weeds with waxy surfaces. Since water softeners replace mineral ions in the water (e.g., calcium and magnesium) with sodium ions, and sodium is not great for those of us with high blood pressure, and because my water isn't hard enough to damage appliances or plumbing, I don't have a water softener. I may try distilled water, which is soft, but that adds a buck a gallon or so to the cost of the weed killer.
how much area will this cover
Asked by Bob April 26, 2018That all depends on how strong you are using it. For average useage I would say one gallon covered about about 800 sq ft but mainly I just hit the weeds that were showing.
Can you spray this around trees without damaging them or spray on weeds without damaging nearby flowers?
Asked by cherbear June 10, 2016I would not spray this product close to (to within a foot) flower beds and other plantings you want to keep intact. I don't know the proximity that is safe. I use it to keep weeds away in gravel driveways and parking areas and walkways. It works well.
