Product Overview

Spectracide Wasp & Hornet Killer3 aerosol eliminates wasp and hornet nests with a jet spray that reaches up to 27 feet. This twin pack contains 2-20 ounce cans. Use this product outdoors where insects live and breed. This product’s powerful spray will also kill insects that return to the nest over the next few days. The non-staining formula can be used around most home siding depending on age and cleanliness (see product label for details). Also controls tent caterpillars, scorpions and ants. To control wasps, hornets and yellowjackets, spray at sunset when these insects are least active. Stand a safe distance from the nest – don’t stand directly underneath. If it’s windy, stand with the wind at your back to avoid spray drift. Spray the nest until soaked. Wait at least 24 hours before removing the nest. Do not use this product in or on electrical equipment due to the possibility of shock hazard.
  • Kills wasps, hornets and yellowjackets, as well as tent caterpillars, scorpions and ants

Questions & Answers

Will this product kill ground yellow jackets

Asked by: Ted
My daughter and son-in-law used this on hornet nests under my back steps and wasps under the awning on the porch. They initially had to make a direct hit on those flying near the entrance to the nest (under the steps which we did not know that the nest was under the steps) which allowed them to saturate the entrance. It killed those flying around the entrance. Once they saturated the steps and other bees died, an hour later they were able to dislodge the steps from the back stoop (not attached to the structure) and flip the stairs over. They located a HUGE nest and bombarded the nest covering it with the foam. Half of the nest fell to the ground and while the bees were staggering they continued to saturate them and the nest. It took about 36 hours for ALL the bees to make contact with the poison ( which I learned is normal for the time it takes for surviving, affected bees to take the poison back to the remaining nest) and I watched them as they struggled to try to leave the poisoned nest until they died. There was a smaller nest in a tote that I had on my patio and repeated this procedure two days later. ALL activity ceased 36 hours later. I have one more nest to attack which is over my front door. I will annihilate that nest this weekend. I would not recommend for yellow jackets and the directions don't recommend for yellow jackets. Home Depot carries a different product for them because they build their nests underground and in hollow trees. I paid $100.00 to have a yellow jackets nest in a hollow tree in my backyard three or four years ago. They are far more aggressive. I am planning to have that tree removed because I do not know what else may try to make a home in it and it is surrounded by my beautiful azalea shrubs. Hope this helps even if I went a little long in the answer. I was stung badly by the hornets and suffered for three weeks. The juice of a lemon, witch hazel, Apple cider vinegar and an ice pack helped me through three weeks of pain, itching, burning and swelling.

Have used this product a number of times and it will eventually kill wasps. It will not however knock them down immediately to put yourself out of danger. The wasps frequently fly off after soaking them on the nest but will die after about a minute. If there is one flying and you hit it in the air, forget about it. This stuff will just tick them off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I used more of it then I killed the wasp.... I used more of it then I killed the wasp. Six cans and I still have wasp and carpenter bees swarming in the warmer weather. I don't know what it's going to take to get rid of these things. Followed directions and still, some don't go down.

I've always had good luck with the large-can two packs and so I just put this in my cart. I don't pay too much attention to the product brand because they have all worked the same, until these two cans of Spectracide. Normally the wasps just drop if they get even a little spray on them. I just sprayed three nests, and again, the poor things are crawling around covered in foam. Some of them have managed to fly away. It comes out of the can great! but doesn't really seem to work. I was unable to reach a nest to knock it down and I found that they were back to it the next day. This is not the same stuff I have used for many years. I won't buy this brand again.
