Questions & Answers

Can this be applied to my gas furnace sheet metal ducts while furnace is running heat in winter?

Im wondering if the warm air will negatively impact the curing process. Im just sealing small corner seam gaps that are leaking warm air. Temperatures outside are below 30 degrees so furnace runs a lot.
Asked by: SushiBreath
No. This is a sealant. If there are any air leaks it will not seal them properly. The air pressure will cause holes in the mastic. I believe the directions say to let it cure for 24 hours before using.

Is this the exact same formulation as the one that comes in a 10.5 oz caulk tube?
Asked by: Werhat
Some mastics have reinforcing fiber and some don't. This is probably not the same as the caulking sized tube--this DP 1030 pail has bits of fiber in it to reinforce. DP1030 is great product--you can also embed fiberglass mesh drywall tape to really reinforce a joint in ductwork.

Can I use this to seal any small leaks in the seams of the evaporator metal case? The evaporator/...

Can I use this to seal any small leaks in the seams of the evaporator metal case? The evaporator/casing is attached to the furnace in the attic. There has been some minor rusting in the bottom of the case at the seams, that has caused a few holes and any water that is in the case leaks out the bottom of this case onto the secondary drain pan below the evaporator case. I noticed that there is this similar type mastic that was spread around the exterior seams on the top and sides of this evaporator case. So, would this product seal any type of water leaks in this case? I noticed that the cure time for this product is 72 hours so that would not really work for me since the AC is running during the summer. Any ideas? If not, what do you recommend?
Asked by: dangramm
The product has worked but I did allow the cure time. I used the product on a house roof over a year ago and it's still working
