Do I have to add oil on the gas

Asked by: Jc
No you do not. It is a 4 Cycle engine. You only mix oil into the gas for 2-cycle engines.

I ran this at idle for about an hour. Then took it on a boy scout camping trip to run my CPAP. Operated perfectly for over 10 hours straight. I modified the fuel cap to siphon gas from a 2.5 gallon gas can. I decided to change the oil after having about 11 hours on the engine. The next night I camped out with the cub scouts and ran the generator for over 12 hours. No problems at all. Changed the oil today and it was dark but not as bad as the first 11 hours of operation. I also added an engine timer so I can keep track of the hours on the engine in order to change the oil at appropriate intervals. This is an incredible value for the $158 I paid for it. Take a look at the photos to see the modified fuel cap and the engine timer.

I used it the first time for a 3 day cabin camping trip this summer. It was hot, maybe 100F, so we wanted to run an air conditioner. This little generator was able to power a 5000 BTU air conditioner (600-700W) for 4-5hrs in the heat of the day. We also used it to charge our battery box which we used to power our lights a night. This generator is light weight. Feels like 30lbs vs. 48lbs for the Honda 2000 or Harbor Freight Preditor 2000 generators. So its really portable. I posted a review of this on YouTube, if you are interested (link below): https://youtu.be/kq9gfSrtKsU

I had a few different 5,000 Btu units and all were electronic in that they had remote controls. None of them would work with this generator. I read somewhere that someone had run a manual 5,000 btu air conditioner with this. So I bought and tried the Arctic Wind Model # AW5005M, I can confirm that it will run with this generator. The eco mode is turned off. It does not seem to struggle bad upon startup.

One a load is introduced, the overload light now comes on within seconds of running and shuts the engine off. Will not reset and restart until unit is completely cooled down. Now the engine will run on a cool start until a load is presented and then the overload shutdown begins. Unit doesn't produce electricity now but will still shut off if you plug anything into it.

I wanted this to work so bad, It does power my AC, lights ect. in the trailer. It was great the first 3 - 4 uses and fairly quite. The plastic panel at the exhaust side broke from vibrations. It got to be a chore to get started. I am talking 4 or 5 sessions of 15 to 20 pulls and this on about the 5th use. Then the choke lever broke off. I have always gotten it to start but It should not take so long as I have to walk away and rest. When its 110 in the desert you don't want to be pulling on this thing. Even tho its only 2 years old and used less than 200 hrs I am considering buying something else due to effort required to start.

I've only run it for about 30 minutes so far but it looks like it's going to do what I need. I already have a 110lb 3500w generator that powers my camping trailer including the ac or microwave. However, I rarely use the AC or microwave and wanted something smaller and easier to move around. It arrived with oil all over the side of the generator which makes me think they sent a returned unit. However, it fired right up and runs fine. It's powerful enough to charge my trailer and run my TV and DVD player yet much quieter than my larger generator. It's quiet with no load on eco mode, but MUCH louder with a load on it. It's definitely not the quality of the Honda or Yamaha's, but I didn't expect it to be for the price.
