Earth Series 10-Ton 94cc Gas Kinetic Log Splitter

Bought as a gift for my husband and he loves it! Easy assembly and quick start. Easy to use!

Upon delivery and removal from the packing crate I saw that some significant assembly was required. First I gathered up the loose screws, bolts, and washers in the bottom of the crate and put them aside. I read through the instruction manual to find that only illustrations are provided on where to install the various parts. There are no sequential assembly steps to follow. It is up to the owner to decide how to proceed. I found the assembly process required two individuals and metric sockets and wrenches. Following assembly I was left with an irregular shaped piece of sheet metal of about 12 by 8 inches. It appears to be part of the pulley guard cover, but I could not make it fit. This piece is not pictured or discussed in the instruction manual. I contacted the company’s Customer Service, but they could not provide an answer. Once assembled, I put in oil and gasoline per the instructions, and then followed the start-up procedure. The engine started on the eighth pull of the recoil starter rope and ran smoothly. Per the instructions I allowed the engine to run for five minutes before attempting any log splitting. For the first test of this unit I chose a small log with a diameter and length well within the listed limits of this splitter. (See attached Photograph # 1.) Following the instructions for splitting wood I made the first Ram strike against the log. The Ram successfully struck the log then retracted. However, the engine immediately quit also. I easily restarted the engine and let the flywheel come back up to speed. Per the instructions regarding “Splitting Tough Logs” I was to continue striking the log until it split. So I activated the controls for a second strike against the log. The Ram successfully engaged the log and then retracted, and again the engine stopped running. At this point the log was about half-way split. I restarted the engine, let the flywheel come back up to speed and then made a third strike against the log. The Ram struck the log, the engine stalled, and the Ram did not retract. Now, the engine will not restart. The pull cord on the recoil starter appears frozen in place. The log is now about three-fourths split with the unit’s wedge embedded in it. The log is locked in place by the extended Ram arm. (See attached Photographs # 2 & 3.) This particular problem scenario is not addressed in the “Troubleshooting” section of the instructions. As such, I do not see an easy fix to this issue. My wife and I also noticed this splitter will easily tip over sideways. The unit is top heavy due to the height of the engine, narrow wheel base, and only one support foot under the wedge end of splitter. So care must be taken when working around it.

Splits wood very quickly, with 2 people (3 if old like us) a cord can be split as quickly as a person (or 2:) can stack. Unit seems solid after 1 cord, hopeful to be using this easily transportable unit well into the future.

So far so good. Does what its supposed to. Easy set up, easy to move around. Good price.

It was easy to put together my husband loves it .It’s everything he expected

Upon first use it stalled each time i tried to split a log. I adjusted the throttle but when it didn’t stall it would spring back from the log jerking it out of my hand. After several times it managed to split the first log, however the log was quite small. It will not split logs over 10 inches around without it being unsafe or stalling.

assembly was good. power was OK disappointed to find out from reviews that parts may not be available if needed.
