About This Product

Blue Moon Reblooming Wisteria was bred in Minnesota and is 1 of the few wisterias that can be enjoyed by Northern gardeners. This hardy, magnificent climbing vine is extremely floriferous. This native selection grows 15 ft. to 25 ft. tall, so give it a sturdy support like an arbor, pergola or wall. Needs no pruning to bloom but flowers best in full sun.

Questions & Answers

Will it grow in a pot in Chicago Illinois zone 6.
ByApr 25, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Thank you for your inquiry. Blue Moon Reblooming Wisteria can be grown in a pot in Zone 6, but there are a few important things to keep in mind to help it thrive and survive the winters: What It Needs: Large, sturdy container: Wisteria has an aggressive root system. Use a pot that’s at least 18–24 inches wide and deep. Support structure: Even in a pot, it will need a trellis or stake to climb. Full sun: At least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for strong blooming. Well-draining soil: Use quality potting mix with good drainage, and consider adding compost. Winter Tips for Zone 6: The plant is cold-hardy down to Zone 3, but in a pot, roots are more exposed to freezing temperatures. Either: Move the pot to a sheltered spot (like a garage or unheated shed), or Insulate the container with mulch, straw, or bubble wrap to protect roots. Wisteria in pots may take longer to bloom and will need regular pruning to keep it in shape and encourage flowering. Water more frequently during summer, but avoid waterlogged soil.

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the wisteria plant generally arrives well-packaged and healthy, with many experiencing rapid growth after planting. However, some customers reported receiving plants in poor condition or not seeing growth after several weeks. The pricing is viewed as a bit high for the size of the plants, but overall, many are pleased with their purchase and excited about the potential of their wisteria.

The plant came well packaged and moist, I planted it right away however see no growth or signs of life yet. It’s been 2-3 weeks or so. Looks like it’s dead. I might update the review if I see any improvement.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Japanese Wisteria. We are sorry to hear that you haven't yet seen growth from the bare root. Many plants do best when shipped in a dormant or bareroot condition without any soil around the roots. Often plants shipped this way may appear to be dead. However, dormant or bareroot plants are living plant material even though they may be completely void of green buds or leaves. They've been conditioned for shipping and will be ready to grow after planting. It may take as long as 6-8 weeks before they sprout to the point where growth is obvious. It is also covered under a one year guarantee. If it fails to grow in the expected 6-8 weeks, please contact Home Depot Customer Service. You can find the contact information under "Customer Service" at homedepot.com.

                        extremely disappointing
Followed all instructions and, 3 months after planting, barely have 2 leaf buds developing. Tracking for item was also messed up. Order showed processing for weeks after I received it. Had I had it delivered to my home instead of work, it could have been taken by porch pirates and I’d be none the wiser.

Much smaller than I thought it would be. But planted as soon as possible and now all four plants are growing great. Can't wait for flowers to appear. Love wisteria.

Sure didn't look like it was alive but a plant person scratched a bit of bark off the one slender stalk to reveal a slight strip of green. I then planted in to a substantial pot and have been heavily watering with substantial amounts of Miracle Grow Quick Start; the one shoot has steadily climbed and sprouted into three shoots. I have all confidence this vine will grow substantially, climb along the top rails of my deck and cascade down over the rail with thick beautiful purple fronds. Yes, I am most pleased.
