Answer This Question
A:Â These only show the Wattage being used, there is no indication of the voltage.Â
by|Jan 15, 2023
A:Â There is a section under development called Labs that's supposed to detect spikes but mine hasn't updated since June
by|Jan 15, 2023
A:Â Under the Labs tab in the PC software, it shows the real time voltage, the Min Sustained voltage and the Max Sustained voltage. It also will show Recent Voltage Dips and Spikes. The data can be downloaded as a .cvs file to import into a spread sheet.

A:Â Hi,
With just two clamp-on current sensors, the Wiser Energy Monitor takes current and voltage measurements over 1 million times every second.
From this incredibly high-resolution data, it derives the electrical signatures of individual devices. In comparison, most "high resolution" smart meters only take measurements every couple of seconds...hardly real time!
Within the first week of installation, Wiser Energy should be able to find some common devices that cycle on and off frequently, like your refrigerator or microwave. Some devices will take longer to identify, until the algorithms have seen enough contextual data to reliably detect them.
There are devices that Wiser Energy won't be able to recognize right away, but as more Wiser Energy Monitors are installed across the US and Canada, the machine learning algorithms will have more data to generate models from, and the device detection capabilities will just keep growing!

Installed the Square D Wise Energy Monitor, Which is actually the Sense, re branded. It uses the same app. I was able to grab this off home depots page on a one day sale. I really didn't need it but since it was on sale I grabbed one. Installing it was simple, again if you are not familiar with electricity have someone that is install it for you. It has been running for a few days and it is starting to recognize devices with in the house. As mention in other post, I wish it would allow you to add devices that you can identify as using power on/off. I did connect to my smart home devices that were being support by Square D/Sense. So for so good. It will be a while before it determines most things in the house. It great to see what is using power and how much.

They should be giving this product away. I have had it installed for four months and it has accurately figured out one appliance. It simply does not work. You can see your energy consumption in total, but it does not identify the source of the consumption with any degree of accuracy. I was skeptical when I installed it and its poor performance is evident every day. I'm a master electrician and I wouldn't sell this product to my worst enemy.

This device is for patient people! I've had mine installed just over one month. With time devices are learned and identified. Mine has discovered six devices so far: refrigerator, refrigerator light, microwave, water heater, dryer igniter, and bathroom vanity light. Some commonly used things like a tv, oven, computers, garage door opener, and washing machine haven't been discovered. Any incandescent lighting has been discovered, but no energy saving bulbs have.
I would say Sense has not saved me any money. It has made me aware how much or little electricity devices use. I was surprised opening my refrigerator used 132 watts when the light turns on. It uses a 40 watt appliance bulb! I thought my desktop computer with 700 watt power supply and monitor would use much more than 170 watts! I also discovered my "always on" draw is 68 watts. Surprisingly low. On the surprisingly high side I discovered my refrigerator turns on EVERY HOUR for 35 minutes and uses at least 36% of my total electricity use.
I wish I had the option of installing solar panels as Sense would support them. Overall I have no regrets with my purchase.

For everyone saying it doesnt come with a ground bar its because it has a main breaker - meaning its the first means of disconnect therfore must be bonded between grounded and grounding conductor ( ground / nuetral ) you can still seperate the two bars but no matter what its still bonded at first means of disconnect just use one side for nuetral( grounded conductor) and one side for grounding conductors ( ground )

Well unfortunately this would not work with my particular Breaker Box set-up. I think the normal breaker box has the necessary wires available for you to clip the amp draw probes but mine had a non-wire solution that prevents proper installation. I'll post a picture of what I'm talking about here. I think the idea and product is a great tool and idea to monitor your system and electric use but prior to install be sure it will work with you system.

Good for overall energy monitoring, does not (yet) live up to promises.
I was excited to try the Wiser Energy Monitor because I have been curious on the energy consumption of several of our appliances as well as how our usage varies over the day, week.
INSTALLATION
If you are not comfortable working inside your electrical breaker panel then you should have an electrician install this (as recommended by the manufacturer). That being said, they made the physical installation as straightforward as possible:
- there are two current sensor clips to put on each of the two phases coming into the panel
- connect the two supply wires to a double pole breaker (so each wire is on a different phase)
- remove a knockout and insert the WiFi antenna so that it is outside the panel (but hidden in the wall)
- connect the above to the monitor a close up the panel
A "gotcha": Powering up the monitor and connecting to the WiFi was a bit confusing as it did not follow the instructions - it is supposed to chime when powered up, in fact it gives no indication it is working after powering up. After powering up you need to download the Sense energy app, connect to the monitor and set up the WiFi - only after the monitor connected to WiFi network did it "chime".
USAGE
After connecting the app to the monitor will immediately see your electrical usage in real time and can walk around your house turning things on and off to see how much power they are using. You can even put in the rate your electric company charges per kWh so that you can see usage and actual cost per day, week, month.
One of the selling points of this device is that it is supposed to automatically detect devices, at which point it allows you to name them and, if you wish, add make, model, etc and monitor their power usage. It took three days to identify the first device, which I think was the garage door opener (we have two identical units, so unsurprisingly the monitor identified them both as a single device). After a month of use it has identified only 7 devices:
- Chest Freezer
- Standalone Dehumidifier
- Electric Clothes Dryer (heating element only, not the motor)
- Small Under Counter Fridge
- Garage Door Opener
- Microwave Oven
- Washing Machine (agitator motor only, not internal water heater)
To be fair, we have a gas stove/oven, gas water heater. However the house is a good size 3 bed with a host of appliances including HVAC with heat pump, large fridge/freezer, electric kettle, toaster, etc, etc. All these other appliances, devices are lumped together in the usage category of "Always On" or "Other" which is where the vast majority of electrical usage is occurring. Reading reviews on the internet indicate that user experiences vary somewhat in this regard and probably depend on the size of the house, number of appliances, etc - some people have had lots of devices be detected fairly quickly, but I suspect most people have a similar experience to mine.
You cannot train the monitor by say telling it to detect a device, turning it on and off and then naming it - you have to just hope that eventually the devices will be detected. From a technical point of view, what the monitor is trying to do is solve a very hard problem in as much as it has to:
- expect a unique electrical usage pattern that is unique to every device (without being offered any close by the user as to what devices he/she is using)
- pick out the above pattern from a host of other signals/noise occurring at the same time
As an Electrical Engineer, I find it highly unlikely that this model will be highly successful and therefore am to terribly disappointed that it does not work very well.
SUMMARY
- Easy to install
- Great for getting an idea of real time whole home power usage
- Can see trends over the day/week/month/year
- Can use it to walk around and identify power hogs by turning them on/off while observing usage in the app
- Don't expect detailed device use and be pleasantly surprised if it works
- Manufacturer has good support and is responsive

I was interested in the Wiser Energy Home Monitor because my power company was recently logging incorrect data from my smart power meter, claiming that my power bill would be $900. The power company eventually fixed the problem, but until they fixed the problem, the only way I was able to document my actual power usage was to take photos of my power meter throughout the day for a few weeks.
I selected this Energy Monitor to see if it could log my energy usage, help me better analyze my power consumption, and know when my power company was using bad data for my usage.
After receiving the Wiser Energy Monitor and reviewing the installation instructions and video, I have learned that this product is probably not compatible with the electrical panel on my house. The product assumes you only have two main service cables that are easily accessible at the top or bottom of your panel. But my Siemens "side-by-side" 200A panel has four main service cables feeding the breakers from the utility section of the panel--two red and two black wires. Because of my panel design, I am pretty sure I can't use it to monitor my whole house energy consumption. Instead of clamping the main service cables, I might be able to clamp the wires for 2-3 circuits at most, but I don't know if the Wiser software will be able to interpret just a few circuits, as it is presumably expects to be analyzing usage for the entire home.
Before you buy the Wiser, I recommend the following:
1. Watch the Schneider Electric Wiser installation YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhkeFxzkkRo
2. Check your electrical panel or have an electrician check your panel to verify that it has only TWO main service cables that are easily accessible for clamping
3. Verify that you have space for a new 15A to 30A 2-pole circuit breaker (or have one you can tap into)
4. If your panel is outside, verify that you have room inside your panel for the Wiser unit, and a spare knockout on the bottom of the panel for the antenna
I am going to have to call my electrician to see if there are any options to try and make the Wiser work with my panel, but I suspect it isn't compatible.

This Wiser home energy monitor is a brilliant piece of technology that has the potential to save you a lot of money. For example, I found out that my son was restarting the dryer over and over again because he didn’t want to stop playing his video game to carry the laundry up the stairs. He would tell us the dryer wasn’t done. We set the app up to send a notification when the dryer is turned on and off. Busted! Installation is straight forward and the app is innovative and easy to navigate. Once I had the home energy monitor installed and it was done with its 24 hour calibration, I was going around the house unplugging things and flipping switches to see how many watts different things were drawing. After a few days, the home energy monitor started recognizing various appliances in my home and labeling them. Once I put in the price that I was paying for electricity I could use the app to find out an average on how much each appliance was running a day, and an estimate on how much that appliance was costing me to run a year. So far the energy star ratings have been pretty accurate on my appliances. If you Input your billing cycle start date, you can estimate what your bill is going to be before it even arrives!
