Lowering main breaker

Asked by Jeeves August 30, 2017

They shouldn't have any problem with that , if you were putting a 200 in a panel rated for 100 , then you would have a problem .

Is there a generator interlock kit thato will fit this main breaker / panel?

Asked by James October 8, 2016

Answers

I don't know if they have an interlock kit, but since this is a sub panel one could install a manual transfer switch between the main meter panel and the sub, or get a stand-by generator that comes with its own breaker panel that you set next to the sub and bring the circuits that you need working in the event of an outage, into the generator panel When the power goes off the generator automatically starts.

I think it's about $27.00, I got one through the home depot.

Main Breaker

Answer

Not offered as 100A main breaker. Existing 200A main breaker may be replaced with lower amperage main breaker; QOM2100VH is 100A 2-pole main breaker kit.

Tandem Breakers

Asked by greg June 4, 2016

Answer

For load centers designed to accept tandem branch circuit breakers, some do limit the number of tandems and where they may be installed, typically at the opposite end of incoming. Forty space/forty circuit indicates panel with forty spaces to accommodate 40 one-pole circuits (no tandem branch breakers allowed), while 40 space/60 circuit indicates 40 space panel to accommodate maximum of 60 one-pole circuits and 40 space/80 circuit indicates 40 space panel to accommodate maximum of 80 one-pole circuits.

In reference to load center covers, what is the difference between a “Flush Cover” and a “Surface Cover”?

Asked by Sama March 23, 2016

Answers

A flush-mounted panel goes in the wall, a surface-mounted panel goes on the wall. Typically, a flush-mounted panel will hang between two wall studs and its front will later be covered with drywall, with only the breakers and the cover being visible. Thus a flush-mounted cover has a slightly larger bezel around the edge to cover the drywall cutout for the breaker panel.

where can I place tandem breakers on this load center

You have to look very closely at the plastic that the bus bar is mounted in. Online photos likely won't show such a zoomed up photo. The bottom 20 slots in the panel have cutouts at the outer extremities of the plastic bus bar, where the breaker clips on and is held firm. Tandem breakers have special fail-safe tabs on them, which prohibits them from being installed in all but the specially designated locations. These notches in the plastic are there to permit the special tandem breakers to be installed.

It's a decent panel but I like using cutler hammer panels and breakers, they're better built, easier to work on, copper buss bar is available and everyone stocks breakers that will interchange with them.

Exactly what I needed to upgrade from 100a to 200a service. I liked the 20 tandem slots that will permit future expansion if I run out of space.

Fit my need, easy to install. Square D QO makes good products. I was able to add 20 more circuits from the existing 40 without having to take up more wall space. The directory can be bigger for clear concise labeling. Having the door included as part of a kit will be imore convenient. great overall.
