Does it have to be installed at the top of the panel or it can be installed anywhere?

Asked by Yang April 29, 2020

Yes at the top. Make sure the opposite side has basic breakers and not appliances. The "equipment" installs either side and below the surge protector for best protection of the expensive toys!

Other than temperature I don't see any reason it would not be an issue. The specs for this show an operating temp of -4˚ F to 149˚. I am not sure if this is accounting for any insulation/heat coming from the panel, etc.

will this surge protector fit into a Q0C42UF panel box? if not what will work in it?

This item will FIT into any QO panel. But it will only WORK in a "plug on neutral" panel. If your panel does not have "plug on neutral" you must use the one with the pigtail wire.

Will installing a second one of these provide an additional level of protection?

From what I've researched it will improve longevity, that is to say that any surge will be shared between the multiple SPDs and so they won't go bad as quick. I assume it also means they can handle double the max surge, but it seems that a surge that high is extremely unlikely.

How do I protect low voltage like phone, wifi, etc.

THe electric side of the phones and WiFi are protected AC only. Just about all damage comes in the cable. Therefore install a surge protector for the screw-in cable as well.

Yes the QO250PSPD QO plug-on neutral (PoN) compatible SPD securing up to a 50 kA surge current rating per phase. It will protect your panel. 5 Year Warranty - $50,000 downstream equipment protection. It is still recommended to protect equipment with surge strips especially on electronic equipment. Regards, Customer Care

If you have one main disconnect feeding two side by side panels then yes one on each panel. The AC is covered. Make sure the Surge Protector is at the top and two lighting circuits at the adjacent side. Then put the equipment 240 and 120v either side below the surge protector.

This is a whole house breaker that snaps right on to the bus bar, thus a solid connection, and it looks a he11 of a lot better than the floating box with the tail. .

Easy Install for great protection
I don't know why the stores don't keep these in stock. They are an easily installed option for whole house protection. It literally took less than 10 minutes and that included moving the stove breaker so I could place this near the feed. Make sure you have the right type (QO) breaker panel. Turn off the main. Snap it in. Turn on the main. DONE!

The directions state that the preferred location is at the top of one of the banks of circuit breakers so if necessary move two down (obviously after turning all breakers off, then shutting off the main breaker). Then reverse the process, turning the main breaker on then flipping each breaker on one at a time until all are on. I had one nearby lightning hit that may have caused a surge and damaged electronics and appliances. This surge protector appeared to work perfectly, turning off everything momentarily and back on in an instant. It also looks cool and finishes off a perfect panel installation. A must have for a new Square D QO 200 amp panel.

Yes but with reservation. The product you represent has incorrect information. That surge protector text clams fits all but it does not fit HomeLine system sold at your store. I use Square D for 55 years. They have the technology experts to teach and provide support. Please consult them on your inventory. It is a mixed bag of "well this won't fit" as claimed.

Company touts their warranty and dollar amount coverage. This ONLY applies if you don't have homeowners insurance. If you DO have insurance (you do, too; don't you?) they don't pay for damages. You file an insurance claim, pay higher rates for filing a claim, then submit your claim to Schneider Electric. Then they reimburse you your deductible. So in my case, their touted 5 year / $50,000.00 warranty shrunk to a $500 warranty. I returned this product and purchased and installed an externally mounted Eaton device that required a dedicated 50 Amp breaker. That product also features two green indicator lights on the module that can be viewed from outside the panel. You do not have to open the breaker panel cover to see the indicator lights. It was harder to install than just snapping in a new breaker, but I consider seeing the lights with just a glance a plus. Schneider Electric also specified the surge protection device was for residential use only, to protect household appliances, computers, TV's, etc. My home has a 200 amp Square D QO panel. I was going to put the device in my 200 Amp Square D QO panel in my home shop - so I wondered if they would even reimburse me for my deductible since I was going to hopefully protect a small mill/drill, metal lathe, wood lathe, MIG welder, air compressor, table saw, and radial arm saw - none of these devices were listed in their residential items covered.

So easy a child could do it. Plugs on to the panel, no wires to attach. The hardest part was removing the Knockouts from the cover, although in existing panels you may want to move 2 breakers to allow the Surge Protector to be mounted as close as possible to the incoming wires from the meter.
