I have recently bought a new house and the floors squeak. I have a very light colored barber carpet. Using this product does the screws mess up the carpet like pulling the pile when screwing it down? And does it show after it is done? Thanks for your responses.
Asked by: Debbie
I've only used this on plush carpet so I can't say for certain that the pile won't pull on barber carpet where the pile is much tighter together. You could test it in an inconspicuous spot (like a corner or closet) to see how the carpet reacts. The screw will be countersunk underneath the floor once finished and you should not see it after you've finished installing it.

howto find out where the floor joists are from up above
Asked by: ladd
We used a stud finder. One that lights up and beeps when you reach the stud. It was set for deep scan since it was for the floor. Our joist were not typical and my husband had to actually go underneath the house to see what we were hitting. It was a mess of a joist but they did help with the noise once we located the right spot. Hope this helps!

Floor Repair Kit is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 148.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Breaks SUPER EASY The gripper tool given (though shown in videos as metal) is a cheap plastic material that breaks instead of breaking the screw heads. I was left with a floor full of screw heads sticking up as gripper tool snapped on first screw. You will need to have strong pliers on hand to actually snap all those screw heads off. Also, most of the screws are bent, so they build up resistance as they go in, often times snapping before reaching desired depth. You will be left with a screw sticking out of the carpet and no head with which to reverse it. Tip for this, remove bit from drill and try to secure drill to the little portion of screw sticking up and see if you can get a good enough grip to bring broken screw back up as you reverse the drill. The drill bits they give you also bend very easily which makes them worthless pretty quickly into job. All in all, product is horribly made. It can get the job done, but not very well and because of poor quality, you will have to endure a lot of headaches.

I used this to get rid of the squeaks in a 100 year old oak floor before refinishing it. It took more screws than I expected, but it worked well. If you follow the instructions, you get good results. For me, the screws would not come apart when installed with a power drill. I had to break each one off individually using the provided tool. It was more work, but it worked. I'm very satisfied with the result. I plan to use it on other floors in our house. As they age the floors get more and more squeaky. I may try some through carpet next. When I do, I will post the results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works! I'll start off with I had to purchase this twice, the first one had bent bits to find the studs under the floor making them completely unusable. (reason for 4 star instead of 5) There is a video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8D9uNvDuto to demonstrate how to use this product that is very easy to follow. After watching the video I set forth to fixing the squeaky floors. In a matter of roughly 45 minutes I have fixed the squeaks in 3 rooms placing 27 screws in total. That many screws you can imagine how squeaky the floors were. I had also bought the replenishment kit of screws. I do have linoleum floors with squeaks but I'm going to be hesitant on fixing those with this product. Watch the video and you'll understand why. I am overly satisfied with this product with it's ease of use, value, and it ACTUALLY WORKING. Best $30 spent to longer hear every movement that happens.

I ran through all the original screws & the issue still persists. I tried the stud finder AND hammer method to detect the stud, but both must have failed, because the issue still exists. Will order more screws & try again.

It took a little while finding the joists, but the joist-finding bit was very useful for that. Once I found the joist, the rest was a piece of cake! The floor has very minimal noise, and the carpet wasn't damaged by this procedure. Very satisfied!

Shut my squeaky floor up and did not notice any of the 100 holes in the carpet from trying to find the joists.

The plastic star is pretty useless at breaking the screws off once they are in the floor. Had to use a hammer to break the screws. But the kit took care of the squeaks in my floors.
