Questions & Answers

I would like to know if this product can be diluted in water to put the cabinets for cockroaches?

Asked by August 17, 2020

No, diatomaceous earth works best when kept dry. When wet it clumps up and loses its insecticidal properties.

Is this safe for edible organic vegetable gardens? How to apply in the garden vegetable bed with ...

Asked by Shopaholic May 22, 2020

Yes, Insect Dust is safe to apply in vegetable gardens up to the time of harvest. To apply use a garden duster to the top soil around base of plants and on top of plants to kill crawling insects. Grubs will be less effected. Instead you should try Milky Spore Japanese beetle grub control with is applied to the top soil of garden and watered in. Milky Spore is effective for Japanese Beetle grubs only. If see adult Japanese Beetles in and around your property Milky Spore will help to control them.

will this work on Grub worms in the ground?

Asked by Gene February 24, 2020

Diatomaceous earth should kill grub worms. What this product does is when an insect/pest crosses the dust or even better when applied directly to it, it slices the pest body and dries them out. Be careful if the ground is wet it will not work and will cake up so always apply when dry or after a rain when it dries up enough.

You can try out this product. It kills even the tiniest of insects by cutting its exoskeleton, just like glass. It's an organic powder, so don't breathe it in, but it works! Good luck!

Is this good for killing cockroaches? If so is the application the same as applying boric acid?

Asked by Thatsallfolks February 1, 2019

Yes, our Insect Dust 4.4LB is great for killing cockroaches. The application should be a light dusting in cracks and crevices, behind appliances and other areas cockroaches are found. You can also apply a heavier line of the product as a barrier.

Does it kill termites?

Asked by Meivr September 8, 2017

No, this does not kill termites.

I do not see the description including FOOD GRADE. Is this food grade or not? That's the only kind to use near pets!!!

Asked by DiatomaceousEarth August 21, 2017

This is a natural, mined product composed of the skeletons of ancient microscopic sea animals (diatoms). It is more like a mineral than a chemical. Therefore it is not food. Eating a small amount of it is harmless to animals. Think of it as egg shells as they are both primarily calcium carbonate. You don't want to eat a lot of egg shells but you also will not get sick from eating a few.

I ordered this online because there appeared to be no availability on the shelf at the store. There was a similar item that I purchased from the store. Four tenths of a pound of St. Gabriel's purchased online costs significantly more than the instore purchase costs. For my requirements, food grade is not an issue. I have used it three times in the last couple of weeks, along with an electric flea trap. It has helped to control fleas indoors. As economical as the product is, it has been repetitiously applied outdoors after each rain event. The only applicator was online only in a quantity of eighteen! To sell the product without selling the duster was at least inconvenient until it was purchased the JT Eaton product from a local do-it-yourself pest control retailer.

Great Flea Killer
Food Grade Diatomaceous earth quickly kills fleas naturally without having to put toxic on your pet. Also great to get rid of internal worms in people or pets. This product will kill any bugs in and outside your house.

This product works great
I have been battling a severe flea infestation for months. I had read about diatomaceous earth so decided to give it a try. I have an animal in the home so was wary of some chemical means of flea removal. This product worked great and is very easy to use. I spread it throughout the house, working it in carpets and hard to reach areas. It easily worked into fabrics and furniture. I didn't have to use that much, just spread it evenly. Since then I have been finding tons of dead fleas and have noticed a big reduction in bites. I will continue to use this product to help with insects, and plan on buying it again.

Does the job
I used this product for a flea infestation and for roaches. I applied it on my cats fur, beds, furniture, carpet, corners, and practically anywhere the problem was. It took about a week to see it take any affect but I"m satisfied that it works unlike the other chemicals I wasted my money on. It is a bit messy especially since I have tile floor. It's been about 2 weeks since I bought this product and I've only seen one flea which was already slowly dying. overall It gets the job done, eventually.

The package arrived with a hole in the bag. It's a big, powdery mess inside the box. I haven't used it yet because of the mess I will have to sift through to find where the hole is in the bag and tape it up.

It didn't do anything for the flea's I'm trying to get rid of. Possibly worked on the carpet but not anywhere else.
Details of this product are misleading
The specifications for this product show that it is 100% Diatomaceous Earth. In addition, the SDS sheet list that the product is 99% Diatomaceous earth and 1% other ingredients. However, when I ordered and received this product, I noticed right on the label that it is actually 85% Silicon Dioxide and 15% other ingredients. Silicon Dioxide is Diatomaceous earth, but I could not figure out what the other ingredients is. However, upon searching the two EPA No listed on the bag, one corresponds to Diatomaceous Earth (EPA Reg No. 63191-17). The other corresponds to Milky Spore (EPA Est No. 63191-VA-1). I'm not familiar with this chemical and was a little offput by the fact that no where in the details for this bag specified that there was Milky Spore in it which is occurring to St. Gabriel SDS sheet and the EPA number is a Japanese Beetle Grub killer. Not sure why this is in the bag, but I was specifically looking for just Deatomaceous Earth. So I am a little disappointed at the product.
