A:  Hi Joey91510 - if you are needing a different size, you will need to work with your local home depot's Pro department to special order these treads. These lengths are not sold online or in stores.

A:  Hi FLH1, these treads are solid edge-glued treads. That means these treads are made of separate boards that are glued together, sanded, and formed into a single tread. The seams, or joints, are noticeable. If you want a single piece of lumber to form a tread, those will have to be special-ordered. That said, we do sell an engineered tread that will look like a solid piece of lumber. The top and bottom of these treads have red oak "resawn" lumber that is applied over an all oak hardwood core. Both surfaces are solid red oak but since they're cut on the "long side", they look like a single piece of lumber. They are also color and grain matched to ensure drastic color variations are reduced. These treads only come in 1-inch thickness. If those are of interest to you, look at SKU# 176-645. A:  Hi JGGC, you are right to be confused. There are two different dimensions listed for this item, so we thank you for pointing out the discrepancy. Indeed, this tread is 3/4 in. thick (not 1 in.), and we will get that corrected online as quickly as we can. Thank you!

A:  They are 3/4, they sell 1" treads too. For stair treads the measurements are exact. However, you can fit 3/4" treads into most steps that have 1" ones by shimming more on the bottom. It's best to order the correct sizes if you want it perfect to match existing steps, still it's hard to tell the difference, but the 1" steps are better, they are thick and feel more solid under foot so I wouldn't downsize them.

A:  The 3/4" x 11 1/2" x 48" red oak stair treads are really 3/4" thick. Home Depot also has stair treads in red oak that are a full 1" thick. Both thicknesses are available.

A:  Home Depot sells stair treads with either a left or right return already installed or you can buy a reversible tread. Most installers however fabricate the returns on-site with a router so that the returns are customized to the specific application.
